About this deal

I really appreciate your honesty in bring up front about it; at least us fans know where we stand! Other authors try their best but constantly to be left hanging is painful (I’m not going to name names but it’s been 9 years now; the solace being that the reward will ever be the greater for the suspense). I digress. The rest of cast are also especially fascinating. Matsuda Takeru, Mamoru's father and Misaki's husband, takes the cake with his immovable, emotionless, exterior. To go with water analogy, if Mamoru is still a body of liquid water yet to find its shape, Misaki is a dam of waves waiting to crash the floodgates open, while Takeru is an immovable wall of ice. And like a tip of iceberg, there are ominous troubles of family history submerged beneath the ocean, waiting to emerge and crash everything on the surface. And when everything finally surfaces, I can guarantee you that it's cathartic. The natural and gradual development in her characterization and relationship with her family compelled me to be heavily invested in her storyline. She has become one of my favorite heroines in fantasy and I was also thoroughly impressed by the awesome and wholesome female friendship nurtured in this book. The characters in this novel taught me the meaning of facing hardships together, and how crucial family, friendship, love, adulthood, and parenthood are in the face of disaster. These and the terror of war were the main themes of the book and they were expertly delivered to the reader with finesse. You learn over time that the world isn’t broken. It’s just... got more pieces to it than you thought. They all fit together; just maybe not the way you pictured when you were young.” Nnyandonthe third day of the eight-day Dunian week, named for the mythical human ancestor Nnyan from the Donkili, a day of work.

The Sword of Kaigenis not a feel-good story with clear antagonists, pure heroes, and easy answers.Instead, it explores the complexities of war – how the individual has to reconcile the flaws in their own culture with still being a part of it, how loss affects communities, families, and individuals. On a personal level, The Sword of Kaigenis about taking responsibility for your own life, facing regret, and surmounting tragedy. fankatigi(pl: fankatiwu) a person with superhuman physical strength but no theonite nyama or other special abilities. The Sword of Kaigenfocuses on a mother and son. As we watch each of them grow individually, we also watch them grow closer to each other, and subsequently, to their other family members. The Sword of Kaigenfeels like several books in one, combining breathless action with a deep understanding and exploration of the human condition.” – Adam Weller, Fantasy Book Review★★★★★

Dumbaya, Sibi (tajaka, Yammanka, female, numu) co-founder of Kuruma Steel with her husband, Mori Kuruma, mother of Kante Kuruma(first mention: Orbit) The Banta Empirea powerful coalition of mountain and grassland chiefdoms that once existed in what is now the southwestern part of Yamma, a rival of the Yammanka Empire until its assimilation into Yamma, a strong influence on Yamma’s current culture and system of government. This book is so rich in themes and narrative it's not even funny. There are some elements of motherhood, survival, loss, prejudice, history manipulation, internalised racism, and discrimination similar to N.K. Jemisin The Fifth Season. There are also themes of humanity, belonging, reconciliation, and home not unlike Ursula K. Le Guin's Hainish Cycle. Everything is delivered via strong worldbuilding and lores. A rich elemental magic system and deep world-building make this martial fantasy perfect for fans of R.F. Kuang, Brandon Sanderson, Leigh Bardugo, and Lian Hearn. Biida, Dinga (aka: King Dinga) (5360, tajaka, Yammanka, male, manga koro) the reigning king of Yamma at the time of the Theonite Series, grandson to Queen Mandeya Biida, the youngest king in recent Yammanka history (first mention: Orbit) kana 1) a Yammaninke negative imperative, similar to English ‘don’t’ 2) a Yammaninke auxiliary verb meaning ‘shouldn’t.’

Blood Needle a jijaka bloodline technique unique to the Tsusano family, wherein the practitioner takes control of a small amount of the blood inside their victim’s body and freezes it in the shape of needle, which is used to strike pressure points or pierce vital organs, called ‘Chihari’ in Shirojima Dialect. Matsuda, Susumu (待つ田, 進) (5297 – 5363, jijaka, Kaigenese, male, kele koro) the second headmaster of Kumono Academy, son of Mizudori, father of Takashi and Takeru, grandfather of Mamoru, Hiroshi, Nagasa, Ayumi, and Izumo(first appearance: The Sword of Kaigen) Lindish a language originating on the western islands of Hades and spoken in some parts of Carytha and Abiria (nearly identical to Earth’s English). There is a substantial learning curve to the book as the author refrains from explaining the many foreign terms inherent to Kaigen and its surrounding cultures. There is a glossary for those who wish to understand as much as possible–I count myself among this group–but it is also possible to get a sense of how things work via context clues. I do recommend taking the extra time to explore the glossary as it provides a strong foundation to why certain things happen the way they do. Wang asks the reader to give a little extra effort get the most out of the story, and it feels like an achievement once you understand the slang terms for certain relatives, the various types of elemental powers, the religious customs, and many other nuances. All of this adds up to a rich, deep, and fully-realized world that is a joy to explore. Rangagua the primary language spoken in the country of Ranga and most of the Ranganese Union (similar to Earth’s Mandarin Chinese).Ekwenzi, Kente (5369, tajaka, Yammanka, male, senkuli) a student at Daybreak Academy, childhood friends with Fiki Zithathwa(first appearance: Orbit)
