A child’s vocabulary is effectively made up of the following; secure words, known words, familiar words, previously seen words and unknown words. There are two specific parts of the exam that test your child’s vocabulary, namely the English section and the Verbal Reasoning part. This vocabulary sheet is absolutely free to download from our site and will become a valuable tool to help your child study for the exam. Children should (at the end of each week) do their own personalised spelling test incorporating the most difficult words they have either found themselves and added to their word list, or words they struggled with in their spelling exercises or words they found in their reading which were particularly difficult.
It would be possible to list many thousands of words but the selection below showcases the kind of unusual language your child might encounter. The book's main aim is to give a solid ground for passing 11 +, it's like a giant check list, basic but covers all the necessary areas.
