About this deal

Anyways, I love the way Superman treats Dick Grayson as an equal even here, love the way Dick kinda hits on Lois Lane, and love about a zillion other things about those two characters teaming; just a great dynamic. Year One begins with the expanded (and perhaps previously untold, I'm not sure) of Robin screwing up on a routine case and Batman firing him as a result. Fans of that title and creative team will tell you the first three years were absolutely electric and very much what the fanbase longed for in a solo outing by Nightwing.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. So if you enjoyed the Titans show’s story of how Dick became Nightwing, I would recommend this story as a fine complement to further your appreciation of the character’s transformation. The heart of the issue though is the eternal Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon on-again/off-again romance which is off here because Dick is with Starfire, but which Dixon has always written to perfection. He also checks in on the circus where the Flying Graysons were the main attraction, only to find himself unable to avoid fighting crime. He thus seeks advice from heroes like Superman who coincidentally ends up being the one who will present the origin story of his new name. Even his Bronze Age tales were either back-up features in the Batman titles, or shunted over to Teen Titans, where Dick was just one of many heroes with which Marv Wolfman and George Perez had to plot out page space for each month.

Jason comes off as every bit the twerp he was when folks voted with their telephones back in the 80's, but the pairing gives Dick a chance to be both outraged ousted party and cool big brother; by the end, we're as in awe of the newly minted Nightwing as Jason is. His unprecedented 100-issue run on DC Comics , Robin is considered to be a classic in the comics medium. I always enjoy reading Dick Grayson when hes at his cockiest and giving the bad guys a verbal beating aswell as a physical one. I also enjoyed it referencing the Teen Titans even though they’re not a big part of the story; it also referenced the comics and their accomplishments too. His odyssey also enlightens him as to how he wants to move forward now that Batman cut all strings attached to him.

There are several characters who have cameos throughout the story Lois Lanes questioning of Clark over how he knows Dick is brilliantly done and its nice to see characters in more innocent times especially Batgirl and Jason. I enjoyed seeing Nightwing without Batman as much, and it was a compelling view of their relationship and how it’s had ups and downs over the years.
