About this deal

Like me, you may have an inkling about the direction of some of the story but I’m pretty sure you’ll discover a few surprises. Speechify lets you listen to any text, including all books in the world with the best voices out there! But Walter Harrington had warned Rita if she did not report to him about his wife’s mental and physical wellbeing, he would fire her and have someone else replace her. I wouldn't say this was a complete waste of my time but I probably won't read more from this author. As threatening notes start to appear, they realise they’re not the only ones living with the consequences of that summer night two decades ago.

For the four Alton children, it's the perfect summer escape where not much ever happens - until one stormy evening their idyllic world is shattered. Cornwall’s scenic and remote setting is the perfect stage to narrate the history of the Alton children. Just like Delia Owens gives vivid descriptions of the forest such that it almost becomes a character in her novel Where the Crawdads Sing, Eve Chase does give vivid descriptions of the sights, sounds, animals, and textures making the forest come alive in its own right. Gorgeous Applecote Manor, which is nestled in the English countryside, appears to be the perfect solution.

The story is about three women who shares a secret, and a famous artist father, who have now reconvened at the Rock Point house on the cliff in Cornwall after two decades. She’s a geography teacher and he’s a restaurateur, though the pandemic has made it really hard to keep a business afloat in the latter industry. The Birdcage has a similar theme to Black Rabbit Hall and The Glass House, which I was pleased about as I enjoyed them both.

The Birdcage: The spellbinding new mystery from the author of

She draws her characters—especially the half-sisters—with care and cunning…With lyrical originality, she delivers passages that in one image capture the dichotomy between creation and destruction that defines the novel…Atmospheric and arresting, ‘The Birdcage’ dissects the family drama, explores the power of potential redemption and displays the author at her creative and compassionate best. The Birdcage is a show-stopping novel - beautifully written and atmospheric, with a cast of fascinating, brilliantly realised characters whose story kept me absolutely gripped. The house wasn’t quite shabby, but it was not up to the standards of the London house before the fire. I figured out pretty early on what the “big” event was that no one wanted to discuss, a prank gone wrong that caused Gemma to die after suffering an asthma attack. Margot, age fifteen, and her three sisters show up at Applecote Manor in June of 1959, they are only expecting a quiet English country summer.

A bittersweet, beautifully written, slow burn family drama with a killer kick in the closing chapters. P. Putnam's Sons for the free electronic copy of this novel and for giving me the opportunity to provide an honest review. I got mixed up between multiple characters across the dual timelines and overall this one felt like a mess. The novel goes back and forth between Lauren’s 1999 point-of-view, and each sister’s contemporary POV. This book started off very slow due to little dialogue and just the inner thoughts of the characters.

The Black Rabbit Hall is beautifully woven, with vivid details, characterizations, and haunting atmospheres that will keep you hooked to the final page. Amber Alton knows that the hours pass a bit differently at Black Rabbit Hall, which is her London family’s country estate, where there are no two clocks that read the same. Dad is Charlie Finch, a renowned artist who somehow managed to father three little girls with three different women in indecently quick succession.
