It came out shortly after my son was diagnosed with autism and the book was a huge help in introducing him to autism in a positive, funny and appreciative way. Kathy Hoopmann wrote in 2006 the classic All Cats Have Asperger’s Syndrome, a book that has a very special place in my heart.

If something like this happens to my cat, then I try to come up with different ways to keep her cheerful and active. If your cat is not interested in being social with other animals, then there is a chance that it has autism.However words do matter, and sometimes we get things wrong, and that’s ok if we are gracious about respecting the views of others and are prepared to use their preferred language once we know what it is.

It's definitely geared toward the 6-10 year old range, but my 14 year old and I still got a laugh out of it. Children and adults on the spectrum or diagnosed with ADHD will find themselves in the books, and others will recognise and develop understanding and empathy for their fellows who may travel the world on a slightly different path. I narrowed my selection down to around 750 of my favourites, then whittled those down until finally 65 were chosen. All Cats Are on the Autism Spectrum states that “the first signs of autism are usually picked up very young.Another photo demostrates a scared kitty and states , "An Asperger child often has exceptionally good hearing, and loud sounds and sudden movements may scare him". I was very surprised that this is a children's book, due to some of the negative remarks directed toward aspie kids. Cats may behave in a manner similar to an autistic person but that does not mean that your feline is also autistic. All-new cats take a playful look at the world of autism, and these fun feline friends will strike a chord with all those who are familiar with typical autistic traits, bringing to life common characteristics such as sensory sensitivities, social issues and communication difficulties. So very glad that Kathy has chosen to update these worthy books … as women we need to be acknowledging women in everything we do! A good book for giving parents hope that their child is not a lost cause and explaining it to siblings. With these things in mind, I took the opportunity to freshen up the entire book, and revitalized it with all new images as well.
