About this deal

Wanting to test them out on something more treble-y, we listened to M7 by Seba & Ulrich Schnauss. Clattering synths and sonorous chimes had a brilliant level of clarity, with a sweet tone throughout. You can control your music, virtual assistant, and calls by tapping the right or left bud, and using one tap a double tap or a triple tap each does different things. You can use the tap controls as is, or you can customize the touch controls in the Sennheiser Smart Control app. The touch controls worked well and I found the boxier shape of the buds actually helped me hit the touchpad a little more precisely. One of the draws of these earbuds is the water and dust resistance (and yes it’s resistant, not water proof), making them ideal for outdoor pursuits and rugged activities. The earbuds are IP54 rated meaning they are resistant to dust, splashes and sweat but not impermeable. The sound you get from the Sport True Wireless headphones changes drastically depending on whether you choose the Focus or Aware mode. Focus produces a clear, natural sound profile with brighter higher ranges, while Aware has a fuller sound with punchier bass. The Jabra Elite 7 Active buds are a significant update over the Jabra Elite Active 75t and offer more personalised sound and ANC, better fit via the ShakeGrip coating and even improved call performance thanks to the three-microphone-per-bud setup. If you aren't too keen on wing tips, the Elite 7 Active are your best option for running headphones.

Now when it comes to connectivity, each earbud establishes a connection with your phone. So if you just want to use one earbud at a time, you can use either one it doesn’t matter and this is the connection set up these we expect to see from all of our earbuds nowadays. And thankfully, Sennheiser have now implemented this across the board on all of their current earbuds. They are fairly comfortable to wear for extended use too, though after a couple of hours I did start to feel some unwelcome pressure around where the wing sits in the ear. If you are going to wear them for the duration of the nine-hour battery life I’d take the wings off when you weren’t exercising. Sound Quality The Jaybird Vista 2 have an even better water rating than the Jabra Elite 7 Active and feature an equally compact body; however, Jaybird's top buds have wing tips to ensure the wireless headphones stay in place better. Every movement during sports is a challenge for your earbuds fit to keep delivering great sound. For anyone who likes to listen to music while exercising, it's important to be able to concentrate fully on the sport without fear of the earbuds slipping out of place. As all ears are unique in shape and size ‘one fits all’ is not secure, so we have focused on providing a fully customisable solution for maximum wearing comfort and a secure fit.” says David Holm, Sennheiser Sports Product Manager. They are easy to use, doing their job when it comes to passive noise cancellation or keeping you aware of your surroundings.

Sennheiser Sport true wireless earbuds review

On the like-it-less side… the size of these was just too big for a woman’s ear, in my opinion. Even with the smallest tips and fins, these were not comfortable for me personally, even for short stints. Other with bigger ears, or the guys out there might find they have a different experience. Having spent some time with the Momentum 2 and the CX 400s, I can definitely say the Sport model delivers on premium sound quality, and match their cousins beat for beat. That's not to say they aren't well balanced; the CX Sports provide impressive audio quality across the board, and we were equally impressed by the clarity they provide to treble frequencies, even if we occasionally craved some more richness in the mid frequencies. In short I’m not going to recommend these unless you’re a Sennheiser loyalist who has bigger ears, and who’s looking for better than average sports headphones audio quality. If you’ve evaluated these, you may find that for you, the pros could outweigh the cons, but for me, because they’re so uncomfortable, it doesn’t matter how good they sound: I can’t wear them.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 bring a raft of improvements compared to their predecessors and one of the most refined sounds we've heard from a pair of wireless headphones. The mids are pushed as well to bring lead instruments and vocalists up front. This is very necessary for the context of use. While the sound is by no means an accurate representation, it’s sculpted to provide everything you need to hear to get the full picture. You wouldn’t be able to hear finer details on a treadmill anyways, so getting a clear sound for the more essential aspects is much more important. Highs We have state-of-the-art testing facilities in London, Reading and Bath, where our team of experienced, in-house reviewers test the majority of hi-fi and AV kit that passes through our door. Even with the array of wings provided I was a little sceptical that the Sport True Wireless buds would stay in place during exercise given their size and heft. However, those fears were misplaced. They have a very reliable fit once you find the right wing for your ears, and I didn’t experience any looseness during several runs, a couple of cycles, a strength workout and a yoga session.

The highs on the SPORT are pretty standard sounding and they don’t provide too much detail. However, they also don’t detract from the sound in any way. I rarely heard them distort or become harsh, and sometimes heard some surprisingly nice reverb tails and spatial details. Like everything else, the SPORT sculpts the highs to emphasize more essential ranges for the core sound, which is important. This works well in theory, since you physically alter the hardware to change the sound, so you get a more natural sound than if you only tweaked it in the Sennheiser app. Of course, you can – and should – change the sound profile in the Sennheiser app to match the ear tips you have applied; but even so, the buds will naturally cancel/let in more sound.
