About this deal

The teacher begins by explaining to the students that they will ne completing four continuous lessons based upon the story book – The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. Both yellow and orange crayon think they are the colour of the sun – which one do the children think is correct? Do they have any alternative solutions to saying one crayon is ‘right’ and another is ‘wrong’? The teacher then places the letter into the red postal box that the students created in their Art class. The students have created a large card board mail box from a prior Art lesson which the teacher has decided to use for this lesson. The teacher draws a large hamburger in the whiteboard as a metaphor representing how to write a letter – what goes on top, middle and at the end.

While walking into my living room one morning, cup of coffee in hand, I saw that my pug dog Sam had thrown up all over the rug. Sam, you see, loved to eat things he shouldn’t eat, and then throw them up in as many hidden little places around the house as he could, like some kind of awful aberration of the Easter Bunny. The students are using their listening bodies – while sitting on the floor – bottoms on the floor, hands not fidgeting with anything, hands on knees if not hands are up in the air answering or asking a question and eyes and ears facing and listening to the teacher and other students’ answers, questions or comments. I loved the authors unique concept. So many children's books tend repeat the same themes these days. In the story, Duncan normally uses his colours to colour things the ‘right’ colour. Talk with your children about what using the ‘right’ colour means. Do the children always colour their drawings in the ‘correct’ colour? If not, why do they sometimes choose to use a different colour? The earnest gravity of the fighters’ quests paired with the mundane setting and melodramatic tone are perfectly balanced to produce a brand of purely absurd, sidesplitting humor that kids will gobble up.”All the students will create a brainstorming and mind mapping document prior to writing their letters. Once the mini conference has been completed the students can then begin writing their first letter. A hilarious twist on a classic bedtime story: When a boy who routinely refuses to go to bed gets a talkative stuffed animal, the tables are turned!

But then I saw them, like a beacon on a hill… there, on my desk, sat an ancient box of my old crayons next to the hula girl pen holder my grandpa had left me in his will. I didn’t remember buying the crayons, or even why I had them. I didn’t have kids yet, so they were definitely my crayons. And at the time, I couldn’t for the life of me remember the last time I had colored. Crayons are so ubiquitous, aren’t they? They just show up everywhere, under couch cushions, behind the dresser, in the junk drawer. But here was a box I’d aparently kept with me, moving them with all my office stuff from apartment to apartment. So yeah… there they were. And I just knew they had a story to tell. Not only stands on its own merit, but may be even more colorful than the original.”—Huffington Post The teacher summarizes the structure of the personal letter – verbally and in written format and refers to the metaphoric example – hamburger – explaining facts such as – spacing – lines between certain sections of the letter, use of language, wording, sentence formation, contents, grammar, Students will be using comprehension strategies to build literal and inferred meaning and analyse text by drawing on growing knowledge, context, language and visual features and print (ACELY1670).

The Day the Crayons Came Home

Overall, “The Day the Crayons Quit” is an extremely interesting and creative story about how children can use their imaginations to create something gorgeous and creative for their artwork! I would recommend this book to children ages five and up since the Crayons’ letters might be a bit too long for smaller children. It’s scary to have a big job when you’re just a little droid on your own. But BB-8 isn’t alone for long. As he speeds across the sand, BB-8 meets all kinds of strangers who need his help. Should he do good things, as Poe always told him, or will that get in the way of his mission? By telling stories from the points of view of crayons, giving voices to the small and ignored, Daywalt and Jeffers have created two books that offer plenty of charm and fun, but also make children feel deeply understood.”—The Boston Globe The students who require assistance with their drawing will have objects pre drawn, use stencil outlines, tracing paper with pre drawn outlines and have the teacher assist the students with identifying their drawing objects for them and will just require to cut out the objects, colour and join them together to make a 2D or 3 D object / s.

This is all apropos of nothing, except to say that the book was worth the trip . . . and putting up with Joe. In it we learn that Duncan's crayons are not happy. And what better way for crayons to express their disapproval than by leaving handwritten notes for their owner to find. The title and cover image are enough to get you giggling all on their own. But the epic battles depicted by children’s book powerhouses Drew Daywalt and Adam Rex are sure to have us in stitches.” Best Books of the Month When Duncan reads the letters from the yellow and orange crayons, he sees that they both want to be the color of the sun because they believe there is only one way to color it. The yellow crayon believes that only yellow should be used to color the sun, while the orange crayon believes the sun should be orange. Is there only one way to color the sun? Can the green crayon be used to color the sun? How do we define what artwork should look like, and is there only one way that it can look? The tidy up monitors go around the room to ensure all resources are placed neatly in their location.

BB-8 on the Run

It's me, RED crayon. WE NEED to talk. You make me work harder than any of your other crayons. All year long I wear myself out coloring FIRE ENGINES, apples, strawberries, and EVERYTHING ELSE that's RED. I even work on holidays! I have to color all the Santas at Christmas and ALL the hearts on Valentine's day! I NEED A REST! Teacher discusses and summarizes all three lessons – testing students prior, current and new knowledge.
