About this deal

The great thing about body butters is that they don’t contain any water-based ingredients. This means there’s less potential for microbial contamination (such as bacteria) which gives body butters a longer shelf life than lotions and creams. Because the ingredients used can be damaged by exposure to air, light or excess heat – causing the oils to go rancid, vitamin E or rosemary extract can be used to help prevent oxidation. Make the vanilla-infused jojoba oil using the instructions in the herb-infused oil tutorial (found in the Botanical Skin Care Course) using ¼ vanilla bean and ¼ cup jojoba oil. Note that ¼ cup is the amount of finished herbal oil to include in the recipe—you may need to start with more oil when making the herb-infused oil, as the herbs will soak up some of the oil (if you forget to do this, just top off with some plain oil as needed for this recipe). Build an understanding of the basic preparation methods you’ll need to create a range of herbal skin care products. You’ll be guided by both text and video tutorials and gain confidence in creating bath products, herb-infused vinegars and oils, salves, hydrosols, creams and other emulsions, gels, and herbal soap. If you want to make your Floral Skin Cream right now, then you can use heat to gently speed along the process of infusing the oil. If you choose to do this, swap in jojoba oil for the argan oil, which is heat sensitive. I wanted to find a way to reduce the amount of toxins and plastic bottles on a daily basis via personal care products. This book is exactly what I’ve been looking for. There’s lots of recipes for hair, skin and body. The thing I have made is a simple strawberry scrub and it was easy and loved it. I’m ready to ditch the drug store toiletries. And if I can make them, even better!”

Experimenting encouraged! When creating homemade skin care for sensitive skin, careful consideration is needed to select the appropriate ingredients. Some oils and butters are too heavy or drying for this skin type and may cause redness and irritation. Fortunately, many ingredients work beautifully for sensitive skin and it is entirely possible to formulate effective and nourishing products that provide excellent support. If you have any questions about this book or the accompanying program, please don’t hesitate to ask. Vitamin E is included for its antioxidant properties, which help to stave off rancidity. Although vitamin E is not a true preservative, it can aid in prolonging the life of your homemade creams by preventing the oxidation of oils and butters which can lead to these ingredients turning stale. Whether you’re looking for a rich cream to pamper your face, a soothing salve for minor first aid, or topical support for a chronic skin condition, we’ve got something for you in this book. By the time you work your way through this recipe collection, you’ll have a full cupboard of incredible botanical skin care products to share with your friends and family — and maybe even your pets and neighbors, too!

As this course offered in depth information on skin biology and whole body health, I felt this was definitely a college level course. Everything from the Herbal Academy of New England is presented beautifully and the content is always thorough and in-depth. A wonderful addition to many homemade skin care recipes, the natural emollient properties of mango butter make it a perfect fit for creams and lotions. Its mild scent works beautifully in this recipe as it allows the floral aromas to shine through.

Label, and store in a cool, dark place. This vanilla whipped body butter recipe will keep for up to 1 year. This skin care recipe book is inspired by the botanical world and filled with illustrations that will dazzle your eyes and heart — it’s a looker! Take a peek below to see just what we mean! When using herbs, it’s possible to create much gentler products than when relying on essential oils alone. While this book does include some essential oils, the majority of the recipes are based on herbs. Syndet (synthetic detergent) bars are what most people use and love as shampoo bars. They are made of sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium coco sulfate, coco glucoside, and/or other surfactants. You’ll find these ingredients mixed with oils and scent and together they work to pull grime away from skin and hair. Your hair feels like it does after using liquid shampoo and it’s scented by the shampoo bars too. Think of syndet bars as solid versions of our more standard liquid shampoos. This new book from the Herbal Academy is amazing! There are so many great recipes in here for all types of natural skin care and beauty products. Learn how to make creams, lotions, lotion bars, body butters, salves, balms, scrubs, soaps, bath bombs, serums, toners, and more… all with herbal and plant based ingredients!”
