About this deal

As brilliant and funny as ever … Masterfully crafted – gives the late, great Terry Pratchett a run for his money’ That combination makes Aaronovitch’s books real gems, but should not be seen as an indication that the reader will be bored. The real joy of the series is its author’s ability to impart those pieces of obscure knowledge, subtly wrapped up within fight scenes, city centre car chases, and a decent grasp of what it takes of succeed in the realm of modern inner-city policing, from kit, through procedure, and a level of mental resilience that often doubles as grim good humour. Any one of those, in isolation, would make a Rivers of London novel worthy of consideration. Taken together, they make them a popular staple, and Amongst Our Weapons is no exception. The Rivers of London series continues to shine as one of the best and most impressive urban fantasy series with Amongst our Weapons.”—The Unseen Library

Chapman: [slightly irritatedly and with exaggeratedly clear accent] One of the cross beams has gone out askew on the treadle. The Rivers of London is an incredibly addicting series of magic and wonder and mystery with snarky observations by Peter to liven things up.”—The Nameless Zine The most entertaining book that I have read in such a long time…. It’s very funny, it’s very clever, it’s very nicely written…. It’s such a treat.”—Nancy Pearl, bestselling author Night Witch - Russian Oligarch's daughter is kidnapped and he thinks kidnapping Nightwitch Varvara Sidorovna will help the situation. [12]

Tales from the Folly, a short story collection, was published in November 2020. [7] What Abigail Did That Summer (novella) [ edit ] The mystery at the center of Amongst Our Weapons was intricate and fresh, possibly the best in the series (the other that’s in contention with that for me is the one from Foxglove Summer). I wasn’t expecting this mystery’s twists and turns, and the resolution to how to stop the angel from killing again was creative, surprising, and engaging. Some far-reaching consequences and culminations took place late in the book, too. I wouldn’t quite call Amongst Our Weapons a gamechanger but it came close. Prologue dated 14 November 2014 [24] Main events summer 2015, based on reference to Michelle Obama's visit to a London school [25] (in reality, Tuesday 16th June 2015 [26]) At Dragonmeet convention in London, on 30 November 2019, it was announced that a role-playing game based on the book series would be published by Chaosium. [20] The game was released in PDF version on 30 November 2022, pending book version.Ben Aaronovitch has created a wonderful world full of mystery, magic and fantastic characters. I love being there more than the real London’ All the elements are present for another solid outing for the series, but there is more to the book than this. Peter’s partner is about to give birth to their first children. This is complicated enough, but when the mother is an essence of a river, it gets even harder. Grant is on a timeline to solve the case before the children are born. Over the books Aaronovitch has continued to develop Grant and all the other characters. The books have reached a point where change feels natural. As a new father, Peter has more responsibilities at home, but also at work as be trains other officers. The final acts of the book are to promise further evolution in the series, and it has been done superbly.

Speaking of side characters, I would have liked a bit more of Nightingale and his relationship with Peter, too (I really liked what I did see of it, though). Peter’s maturation arc means that he doesn’t need to depend on Nightingale as much as he used to, but Nightingale is a great character and I would love more of him.

Success!

An autopsy reveals that whatever blasted the cavernous hole in David Moore’s chest also shot a metal cylinder into his body, and the cylinder had the magical signature known as vestigia, which is made up of faint sensory impressions. Clearly the murder was paranormal in some way, but the type of magic it involved is not one that Peter and Nightingale are familiar with. The Hanging Tree Announcement - Gollancz".
