About this deal

In 2007, Jeffers was the official illustrator for World Book Day, and in 2008 Lost and Found became Oliver's first book to made into animation by London-based Studio AKA.

One day Henry decides to actually try reading one of his half-eaten books and a whole new world opens up before him. He realises that reading books can still make him the smartest person on earth, but just not quite as speedily as his previous method! Sumptuously produced, with quirky, collage style illustrations, this homage to books will find fans in children and adults alike. This story is about Henry who really, really, really enjoys ALL sorts of books...But...he enjoys the books a little different from you and I. In fact he EATS any sort of book he can find, especially the red ones! This allows his brain to do the most interesting thing, it internalises all the info out of each book until... Lost and Found': 'An uplifting story!pictures of such spare beauty!suffused with a dreamlike quality.' Henry loves books… but not like you and I. He loves to EAT books! This exciting story follows the trials and tribulations of a boy with a voracious appetite for books. Once there was a sad, lonely penguin who appeared at the door of a young boy. The boy decided he must be lost, so he set off to find his home. What a great art project! I bet the kids loved creating these. I like to do children's book inspired projects too. Most recently we used the book "Armadillo Ray". It has wonderful, vibrant oil pastel illustrations. Can't wait to see more of your "book eating children" collages! This new video of Oliver has recently been released and it will allow your children to get a glimpse into the artist's studio. I loved the message—sometimes I too am guilty of "devouring" books at such a gluttonous rate that I don't have time to properly digest them or savor them. Like the incredible book eating boy, I have a desire to consume and know everything. It's enough to make you "boke", ha ha... (That's an inside joke for people who read this.) The boy learns the importance of slowing down and really taking things in.

This is such a charming book! I've read it to grades Kinder - 5th grade. Story line is fun and engaging. Art work is detailed and may need to be shown on an overhead projector if shared with an audience. Oliver Jeffers makes impressive use of space in this affecting story of friendship!illustrations capture feelings of loss and loneliness through the most delicate nuances of facial expression!and body language.'

LoveReading4Kids Says

A brilliant picture book about a boy with an unusual attitude to books! Henry loves books but not in the same way as most people: Henry loves to eat books… He starts with just a word, then sentences until he’s built up enough stamina to eat up a whole book. With every book Henry eats, he becomes just a little bit cleverer…But there’s a moral, too. Oliver Jeffers sophisticated illustrations are witty and absorbing: the bite out of the corner of the book is a joke on its own! Henry discovers his unusual taste by mistake one day, and is soon swept up in his new-found passion – gorging on every delicious book in sight! And better still, he realises that the more books he eats, the smarter he gets. Henry dreams of becoming the Incredible Book Eating Boy; the smartest boy in the world!
