In the lead-up to the oddly satisfying, cinematic denouement, Winslow ratchets up the racial tension as Malone faces a defining choice that could touch off "the fire this time": whether he is still a real cop who will act as protector of the residents of Manhattan North or a former cop who chooses to avoid penance for his crimes because he's made a deal with the powers-that-be to help hide a high crime. Getting you closer to the Force and making you more able to take control of your life and reality with our carefully created steps.It's a book that made me doubt the corruption itself and the very injustice of our capitalist system where the one who least risks is the one who earns the most and the one who most puts his own life at risk is the one who goes home with nothing to feed his children.

But this is not exactly new territory, although it is a fresher and more original spin on the classic cop drama. This book did put me in mind of some older books, television programs, and movies from days past that portrayed the realities of big city crime and justice, and the inner workings of the police departments, where corruption, payoffs and greed were standard operating procedure. In the meantime, Denny gives the FBI more information on dirty lawyers. He also hands over a crooked cop, Torres, because the FBI put immense pressure on him to comply. Everyone on the force finds out that Denny ratted on Torres, and he’s ostracized. Denny knows that if he doesn’t bust Devon’s gang soon to restore his credibility, he’s finished. In the meantime, he steals proceeds from the gang bust and sells heroin to a local mob boss for extra cash. His family suffers, he is on the take at every stage, as are his crew of detectives playing the game. I sensed his colleagues were worse. There are thirty (30) volumes in total and players can give Mitch a copy of the book until he has all of them to get XP and Credits.

However, it is not an easy read in many ways. It is intensely somber and bleak. The prose is tight and poetic even, in its way, but, the language, authentic, though it may be, is rough, very rough.

Winslow’s knowledge of the history of New York’s crime, cops, politicians & scandals is encyclopedic. I can’t begin to imagine the hours of research & the whole thing reads like a dark, violent love letter to the city.

More detailed review to come but I highly recommend this book. The characters were well developed and it was a lot more than just a novel about "bad cops"Why bother calling 9-1-1 to report a crime when the cops are the biggest criminals on the streets and everyone knows it? Malone and Russo and Billy O and Big Monty and the rest made these streets their own, and they ruled them like kings. They made them safe and kept them safe for the decent people trying to make lives there, and that was their job and their passion and their love, and if that meant they worked the corners of the plate and put a little something extra on the ball now and then, that's what they did. The end of the Dragonstar Force? After the dimensional mishaps of their last adventure, and the universe finally at peace, the Galactic Triumvirate decides to abolish the Dragonstar Force for good. As Jeffrex and Laglorial adjust to domestic life, Jarmon and Protonius seek answers. But, they soon regret what they discover. The Galactic Triumvirate may not be what they seem!
