About this deal

W &M have also announced large investment in th ei r Dalmore Distillery and, something of particular interest to me, an expansion of their Scottish O ak P rogramme but I want to find out a b i t more about the latter from whisky maker and mastermind behind the programme, Gregg Glass, before writing about it. Whisky For Everyone is a blog for all lovers of whisky - beginner, keen enthusiast or connoisseur. Whisky is one of the most popular spirit drinks in the world and its sales and number of drinkers are increasing each year. This blog includes regularly updated tasting notes of all manner of whisky from the popular, inexpensive ones to the limited edition, rare bottlings. New Year’s Eve is taken particularly seriously in Scotland. Many “British” New Year traditions – including the singing of Auld Lang Syne – have their roots in the Scottish celebration of the new year, Hogmanay. Tamnavulin White Wine Cask Edition showcases the distinctive orchard fruit character of the Speyside distillery, which complements the flavours enhanced by the white wine finish. In line with Tamnavulin’s tradition of double matured whiskies, this expression began its life in American White Oak barrels, before undergoing its second maturation in Sauvignon Blanc white wine casks. Like ham and pineapple, some unexpected pairings just make sense. The same goes for whisky, which, when partnered with the right foods, can sit comfortably next to dishes from west Africa to Taiwan and everywhere in between.

The Tamnavulin whisky distillery draws its water from underground springs in the surrounding hillside and takes its cooling waters from the River Livet, whose headwaters rise in the Grampians in Moray before flowing eleven miles until their confluence with the River Avon. With one in three British people drinking plant-based milk, it’s no surprise that plant-curious foodies are dipping into oat-based chocolate too. Oats bring a slightly malty taste to the chocolate, and their mild creamy flavour pushes cocoa beans to the fore. “Chocolate is a foolproof pairing with whisky,” says Andrew. “They both occupy that after-dinner moment and bring a sense of occasion. White chocolate pairs with the lemon and grapefruit notes of lighter whiskies such as the Tamnavulin White Wine Cask Edition, dark chocolate is perfect with Tamnavulin Sherry Cask Edition, and milk or oat chocolate pair really well with the hint of demerara in Tamnavulin Double Cask Edition.” Andrew recommends a sip of neat whisky, a nibble of chocolate, a sip, a nibble, until you run out of one or the other. Speyside scotch whisky distillery Tamnavulin, which has found success in its red wine cask finishes, is looking to build on that success by expanding into the realm of white wine. Tamnavulin’s latest release is Tamnavulin White Wine Cask Edition.Nose - Signature orchard green apple notes with banana, ripe honeydew melon and white peach skin. Fresh citrus, green grass, sweet hay with jasmine and vanilla coconut cream. David Morrow is the Editor In Chief of Whiskey Raiders and has been with the company since September 2021. Nose…Very fresh and fruity, aromas of apple, pear, quince, lemon and lime before deeper notes came calling vanilla extract and chocolate, a citric burst, coconut, you now open the car window as you pass the newly mown lawn.

Tamnavulin White Wine Cask - No Nonsense Whisky

We make a whisky that’s aged in tempranillo casks. It’s a travel special, so you can only buy it in airports, but that would pair remarkably well with a beef brisket,” says Leon. “It’s got these nice, rich wine notes that come through.” Winter solstice, 21 December 2023 My work life went a bit crazy at the end of 2022 and I don’t think I’ve ever been so busy and stressed in relation to work before in my career. So I tended to enjoy samples from the lovely whisky community for sheer enjoyment rather than delving into a dram, just taking notes for reviewing purposes.

Like my whisky curiosity, these delicious wines sparked another liquid curiosity and I thought: “Oh no, here we go again.” Another slippery slope of geekdom and enjoyment. My heart will always be in exploring whisky and all its wonderful nuance, but I'm now looking for wine-finished whisky and hopefully a wine finish I’ve tried at least once before. We now whip up to Speyside where Benriach has launched Benriach Malting Season Second Edition (48.9%abv), the next expression in their annual release produced entirely using malted barley from their own floor maltings. Benriach is one of only seven distilleries in Scotland that continues to practise this tradition and it‘s definitely a feature to see.
