About this deal

Mega Man Powered Up is a remake of the original Mega Man (1987) built entirely from the ground up exclusively for the PSP. The visuals have been completely overhauled from 8-bit pixelated graphics to an attractive chibi art style that makes everything adorable to gaze your eyes at.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is the sixth instalment from the series to land on the PSP, and also the last. The original trilogy was a technical marvel, making use of the PlayStation 2’s hardware capabilities to deliver an immersive story-driven game like no other. And even after years of their original launch, the games are still being discovered by newcomers. The only place the “New” Nintendo 2DS suffers is its low-resolution display, which hasn’t aged particularly well. It doesn’t look bad by any means, but most of us gave gotten spoiled by the crisp, high resolution displays on our phones, computers, or tablets. Hyperkin bundles the SupaBoy with a carrying case, wrist strap, and video out cables that let you play your Super Nintendo games on a TV. This makes it the equivalent of a retro-only Nintendo Switch. Its built in screen is only 4.3 inches wide, and allows you to play games in their original 4:3 aspect ratio. You can stretch the sprites to play your games in 16:9 wide-screen mode, too. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas on the PSP is not a port of the original, but actually, a completely different game sharing the same name. The original game was a blast to go through at the time, featuring over-the-top action gameplay laden with elements that made the series an icon. Resistance: Retribution is considered the 3rd instalment in the Resistance franchise, released two years before Resistance 3. Developed by Bend Studio, the same creators behind the Syphon Filter series and Days Gone, Retribution’s plot is set between Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

The company says it gets up to 10 hours of battery life per charge, which is more than enough time to play through a good chunk of a long Japanese Role Playing Game without having to stop. If your collection of Super Nintendo games has started to gather dust, and you want an easy, convenient way to play them on the couch, Hyperkin’s SupaBoy is a solid solution. While it reigned supreme, the PSP enjoyed its fair share of shooting games. From simple shmups (shoot ’em ups) and third-person shooters to large-scale first-person shooters. At the time, the idea of playing one’s favourite shooters on a handheld was uncommon. However, the PSP alongside its fearsome rival, the DS, proved that the idea is possible if done right. PSP stands for PlayStation Portable and it is precisely as the name tells you. It is the first handheld console made by Sony and it is one of the most popular, even today. The unit was developed and released in 2004 in Japan. The following year, in 2005 it became available in the United States, Europa and other parts of the globe. The unit we all know is actually the 7th generation of portable Sony console and the main rival was Nintendo DS. Size is a bit of an issue, but the Switch does let you play full-sized console games on a 6.1-inch 720p screen. It’s by far the most powerful mainstream handheld game console ever released. But, with great power comes so-so battery life. The Switch can last up to five hours per charge depending on your screen brightness, and which game you’re playing. Complex, better-looking games will tax the system more, so you’ll get less playtime. Infinity Ward presents heart-pounding next-gen, state-of-the-art gameplay. Fight alongside friends in a truly immersive experience with stunningly realistic sound, lighting, and graphics that produce the most advanced Call of Duty in history.

Metal Slug XX (or double X) is an over-the-top action run & gun shooter from SNK and acts as an enhanced port of the Metal Slug 7 that was originally released on the DS. Like any game from the series, this is an engrossing epic 2D platformer with non-stop action. Featuring an array of guns, and vehicles to control, players won’t stop playing until they’re done with the game. Despite shooting games not being the PSP’s strongest selling point, it was a free ground for developers and deliver what many may consider solid shooters. A lot of the games showcased in this article have never been ported outside of the PSP’s grasp. And that’s a shame because some of these titles remain impeccable games to go through even today. James Bond 007: From Russia with Love is a movie-tie-in game based on the movie of the same name. Originally released on consoles, this is a port that is almost identical to its console counterpart. Like any game from the series that came before it, players take control of the man once again, James Bond. With various Q gadgets and weapons under his belt, James must accomplish several missions.

The unit was able to push more advanced games and to be used as a device that can play movies, play music and surf the web. It is also able to connect to PS2 and 3 and any computer running Mac OS or Windows. The Switch’s hybrid nature is great, but the system is much larger than a traditional handheld gaming system when its two controllers (they’re called Joy-Con) are attached to its sides.

There are many factors to think about when choosing the right handheld game system for you; below are the most important ones, which we considered while we were researching this list. Chili Con Carnage is the unheard-of sequel to Total Overdose that flew under your radar. It could be because of the game’s different name, or the nearly non-existent marketing campaign. Nobody really knows for sure. Kempshall 2015, p. 36, "'You Provide the Pixels and I'll Provide the War' - Computer Games, Cinema and Narrative. a b Fish, Eliot (April 16, 2007). Game types are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Hold the Flag, and King of the Hill. Battery life:One of the perils of handheld gaming in the modern era is that portable game systems run on rechargeable batteries. That’s great for the environment, and convenient for us, but it means it’s hard to charge your device on a trip. Again, we’ve offered solutions where applicable, but our advice is to keep your device fully charged before your next adventure. 1. Nintendo Switch

While many may argue that Tomb Raider is essentially an action-adventure, and not a shooter at its core, Anniversary and Legend features some of the best shooting gameplay mechanics ever — which sees Lara shooting down bats, and animals, or taking on a myriad of bad soldiers. Yes, this requires you to carry an additional accessory with you, which is a little more annoying than hitting the power button on a dedicated handheld, but you already have the major piece of hardware. Smartphones have a lot of storage, huge digital game libraries and excellent battery life. You’ll burn more power playing games, but you’ll get a comparable amount of play time per charge. Like the DS before it, the “New” Nintendo 2DS XL’ main feature is its dual screen design, which features a 4.88 inch display on top, and a 4.18 inch touch display on the bottom. This system differentiates itself from previous versions of the Nintendo 3DS (the two systems are part of the same family) by having a faster processor and second analog “nub” above the A,B,X, and Y buttons. The nub allows you to control the camera in some games, which makes the experience of playing games on a “New” 2DS XL more similar to a modern home console. a b Michel, Adam (July 12, 2023). However, Sony’s handheld device enjoyed a longer run and sold about 82 million units worldwide making it the third on the list of highest selling handheld device and 8th in the rank of highest selling video games of all time.
