About this deal

The nose is gently fruity and sweet - almost like a lighter version of a fruity christmas cake. Just a tingle of spices at the end. The nose is inviting with warm woody smells, vanilla and spice. Not scoring points for complexity or distinctiveness but it’s a pleasant aroma. On the palate it’s medium bodied with sherry flavours dominating, some butter and touches of cinnamon and oak. The finish is better than I was expecting. Too many malts at 40% die short and bitter ends, but this has some sweetness lingering for a reasonable time with malty spicy flavours associated. A reprise of the palate notes, but with a bit of mouth-drying tannin and a wash of mild bitterness. Gone in an instant. One of only three distilleries in Scotland that are allowed to use the "Royal" name on the label and came about because of its location near the Royal residence of Balmoral and was a favourite tipple of Queen Victoria and her husband Albert. Nice, full and fruity smells coming out of the glass to begin with. Lovely malt aromas. Barley sugars. Orange zest is the predominant fruit. Specifically it brings to mind blood oranges. In the fruit bowl there also appears to be grapefruit (both sweet and sour), raisins and toffee apples. With a bit of that time, that note is joined by some creaminess wand becomes more of a milk chocolate note. Adding those flavours together and it reminds me of the chocolate oranges from Cadbury’s Roses. Maybe even the rose ones (do they exist anymore?) with that sweet little floral note.We had a very lovely time at the Royal Lochnagar Distillery! Thank you so much Eric for your guided tour, it was fun and interesting!

Palate: Smooth and sweet; almost cloying with an absence of spice. A flabby middle continues the initial taste experience. The dram bitters significantly as the wood takes over (a few tired casks in this batch). This Managers Dram has been specially selected by malt distilling managers within Diageo and bottled at a natural cask strength of 58.1%. According to Tripadvisor travellers, these are the best ways to experience Royal Lochnagar Distillery: I would highly recommend it, but do book in advance, another group had to be turned away whilst we were there as the capacity for tours is somewhat diminished due to the covid situation.Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Nose: Grain-forward (puffed barley), lemon peel, fresh banana, airy with light fruits and mild floral perfume. A rest in the glass only intensifies the banana notes. I don’t know what banana flowers smell like, but I’d guess it’s something like this. Royal Lochnagar Bottler Distillery Bottling Bottling serie Blue Coat of Arms Label Bottled 2008 Stated Age 12 years old Strength 40.0 % Vol. Size 700 ml Barcode 5000281004686 Added on 22 feb 2009 4:16 pm The taste opens with fruity, cakey sweetness and expands with some smoke and a spicy tingle on the tongue that seems to moisten rather than dry. Fairly simple but pleasant. Easy to drink. To promote responsible drinking and safety they even provided a small bottle to carry the sample so that whoever is driving can also taste the whisky - from the comforts of their own home. Nose: Maybe a vague fruitiness buoyed by some nice malty notes. With time, a distinct grassiness and a squeeze of lemon juice. Caramel. Is that a whiff of smoke? Sulphur late. An interesting nose but still underwhelming.Thank you for your question, please give us a call on 013397 42700 and we will arrange a tour for you.
