About this deal

The E-P7 eschews the E-PL series' more modern look and two-tone grip for a vintage-inspired design and textured leatherette finish. It likewise ditches the single exposure dial for dual control dials, making it a much more comprehensive manual photographic tool. In what way is it "seriously inferior"? Compared to the M10: same sensor, same JPEG engine, same screen, same battery, same IBIS, same shutter, etc.

The good news is that the camera can be charged via USB (micro USB), so you can give it power bursts on the go if necessary (though it should be noted, it can’t be used while it’s being powered). Image and video quality If you care about small (I DO) this camera is better than the GX9. If you must have an EVF then GX9 wins by default. DXo PhotoLab 4.xx doesn't support the EP7 yet. Hope they do before year's end. Without it, you can't use the nice DXO PRIME noise reduction.I will be frank though. This camera is sold for too much for what it is at 899 euros with the kit lens (plastic body, no PDAF)... I didn't pay that though. I took advantage of the 899 euros with kit and 75mm 1.8. With that deal, it was definitely worth it for the video and ability to fiddle with colors (again, in video). I've dumped the idea of shooting jpeg- DXO PL5 ruined it for me, in a good way (ISO 3200, no problem and it looks like ISO 200). In terms of performance, the E-P7 shoots full-resolution images at up to 8.7 frames per second, which is pretty brisk. Using a UHS-II SD card, the camera can keep this up until the card is full, even when shooting RAW images. In silent shooting mode, which uses the electronic shutter, the camera can shoot even faster at 15 fps. The camera has a stated RAW buffer depth of 42 frames or 49 JPEG images at this speed. In addition to these familiar modes, the Pen E-P7 also has a selection of Color/Monochrome Profiles that are accessed via the dedicated switch on the front of the camera. It’s not possible to access the Picture Controls or Art Filters via this switch.

It’s easy in this day and age to be put off by the size of Four Thirds sensors, but the E-P7 puts in a very solid performance and produces some lovely images. Both are ballpark using a similar sensor. The JPEG engine of the EP7 though is >> than the GX9 and so is the IBIS even with dual IS on the GX9.Grrrrr......if only Oly had put a mode dial on the PM2 (and a 4:3 screen) we wouldn't need the PL7! It doesn’t end there. There’s an art fade movie effect which transitions from one picture mode to another or into any of the Art filters and a One-push tele-converter movie crop feature. Finally there’s a brand new Old film filter which I’m sure I don’t need to explain. Congratulations Steve, this is exciting news. I love to see more and maybe a short article or video to inspire others... The First Impressions article leaves the distinct impression that reviewers consider the E-PL7 a mediocre camera. I am heavily invested in MFT; I already own an E-M5 and a stable of Oly lenses. So I took the plunge anyway.

As an avid photography enthusiast myself, I was thrilled to learn about the features and improvements of the E-P7. Your descriptions of the sleek design, compact size, and powerful image quality got me really excited about this camera. It's impressive how Olympus managed to incorporate advanced technology while maintaining the signature retro charm. The addition of the TruePic VIII processor and the 20-megapixel sensor is definitely a game-changer, and I can only imagine the stunning shots one can capture with this beauty. Dynamic range is a measure of a camera's ability to record extreme brightness ranges and still retain detail in the brightest and darkest parts of the scene. It's measured in EV (exposure values, or 'stops').

The E-P7 offers a 20mp Four Thirds sensor, 4K video recording, a wealth of manual and advanced shooting modes, a tilting 3inch touchscreen that can also be used as a selfie screen, plus a new colour/monochrome profile switch on the front. All in a compact and relatively light weight camera body, weighing in at 337g body only. Olympus PEN E-P7 Features Olympus fans have been waiting to see what OM Digital Solutions would do after the imaging division of Olympus was sold and renamed in January 2021. The Olympus PEN E-P7 is the first Micro Four Thirds camera to come from OM Digital Solutions. Not a horrible lens. After some intial hiccups, the Sony E 16-50 PZ has turned into a very usable lens, devoid of quality issues. I prefer my copy to the 14-42 I lens on my E-PM1. Moving to the top of the camera, there are a couple of command dials, one rotated from the front and the other from the rear of the camera. These dials are both aluminum. The top of the camera has a shutter release, movie record button, share button, power switch, hot shoe and an area where the pop-up flash, well, pops up. Hi Sigfried and thank you for the reply. I would like to do as much color grading in the camera as possible. Already having good results with my EPL-9 which I have been using, although it does not allow changing each color individually. I know pretty well what I want when shooting video and having the possibility to tweak the color directly in the camera allows me to set up each scene better, the lights, atmosphere, acting, etc. I am into real filmmaking so I do not care for autofocus, mic input, flippy screen, 4K 60p, etc. If E-P7 works the way I hope, I would be able to set up 8 individual color styles (4 b/w and 4 colour). B/W would be great for old style movies.

The E-P7 uses a BLS-50 lithium-ion battery, which promises up to 360 images or 80 minutes of video recording. By the way, the maximum recordable time per movie recording is about 29 minutes. The E-P7 can be charged via USB when the camera is powered off.

OM Digital Solutions has announced a new Olympus PEN camera, the E-P7. The Micro Four Thirds camera isn't slated to arrive in North America, but we wanted to give you an overview of the compact, stylish Micro Four Thirds camera for our readers elsewhere in the world.
