About this deal

The Philips Avent teats come in six different sizes. The smallest of which is ideal for preemie babies, and the range goes up to a fast flow. So if you’re noticing a sudden change in your baby’s behaviour then you should cycle through the usual possibilities – growth spurt, developmental leap, sleep regression, teething– and add bottle flow rate to the list! Do not use a teat brush or any other implement to clean the feeding hole in the end of the teat or valve as damage such as splits and tears may occur.

Breast-like: Distinctive, silicone, breast-like teat feels closer to skin and flexes like mum for a comfortable feed and supports in the transition from breastfeeding to bottle feeding If your baby has to let go of the teat, is spilling milk, is getting too much milk to swallow or milk is dripping between the lips and the teat, the flow rate might be too fast and you should change to a teat with a lower flow rate. Are you searching for signs that show a baby needs faster flow teat? Feeding is sometimes difficult for some babies. This situation is usually temporary. The first thing to do is observe your baby and find out their temperament when eating. This would go a long way in helping you know when your baby’s teat needs to be changed.

What type of feeding bottle is best?

Variable – features an adjustable flow rate that can be change between 1 and 3 by turning the bottle.

The MAM Skin Soft Teat has all the advantages of standard silicone - the clear material looks hygienic, it's odourless and tasteless and it doesn't age. It is extra soft thanks to technology designed by the MAM Design Studio for MAM baby feeding bottles. Babies love the smart Skin Soft Teat because it feels so soft and familiar, just like a mother's skin. This makes the switch between bottle and breast especially easy, so babies are able to relax from day one. Thats why all MAM silicone soothers, bottles and nipple shields (for short-term breastfeeding help) are equipped with the Skin Soft Teat. Once they’re older and used to bottle-feeding, you could move to a medium flow. Just follow your baby’s lead to see what teat is right for them. Some babies prefer to stay on the slow flow teats for many months. You can also buy variflow teats where the flow rate can be varied by changing the angle of the teat (Which? 2019).

Some babies prefer to stay on the slow flow teats for many months. You can also buy variflow teats where the flow rate can be varied.' If your baby is struggling with their feeds – spluttering, choking coughing – or on the other side of the spectrum becoming agitated and fussy while eating, it could be time to change teats.

Velvety soft, elliptical shaped teat closely mimics the natural breast of mothers to promote natural latch-on for babies. This minimises nipple confusion, making it easier to combine breast and bottle feeding. No, you can’t use Closer to Nature teats on Advanced Anti-Colic bottles. Closer to Nature teats have a built-in air valve, and don’t work with our Advanced Anti Colic bottles. The valve in your Advanced Anti Colic bottles is situated inside the bottle, attached to the end of the venting tube and is shaped like a star. It’s important that you make sure you match the right teat to the right bottle. She is 15 weeks old today and still breastfeeds every other feed, so do I need to change to the medium flow teats now? The Charity Feed adds that, if your current flow is too slow, you may notice the following signs in your baby:It’s best to replace teats at regular intervals – at least every two to three months – as washing and sterilising will wear on the material. Just to showcase how much flow rate varies by manufacturer, here is a guide to some of the bigger brands teat flows. An indication of progress to the next teat flow can be observed through a baby’s body language and feeding behaviour (examples can be found below).

To some babies, yes teat size matters. This is because the size and flow rate of different sized teats might not always suit your baby’s feeding habits. But it’s pretty common for a baby to be perfectly content with one teat size the whole time they’re bottle feeding, but the flow rate will need to change over time as they develop. All Tommee Tippee teats are the same size, but with different flow options. Can a faster flow teat make reflux worse? When it comes to content, our aim is simple: every parent should have access to information they can trust. If you are breastfeeding, we suggest staying with the Natural First Flow teat because it is designed to match the flow rate of the mother. The Variable Flow teat (with the I, II and III markings on the teat) is suitable for babies aged 3+ months old. This teat has a slot cut into it which provides an adjustable flow rate. The flow rate can be varied by turning the bottle to align the I, II or III markings on the teat with the baby's nose.

Some parents are cautious about using latex teats due to the risk of developing a latex allergy, particularly if there is a family history of allergy to latex (Kimata, 2004). Our Closer to Nature® teats are made from a very sensitive soft silicone, therefore they may reform when not in use for long periods of time, for example, when in storage. The valve will work wherever it’s positioned but the best place for the valve is at the top, near your baby's nose.
