About this deal

Special thanks to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS LANDMARK for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts. There isn’t much that can be said about the hostage situation without taking away from the reader’s enjoyment.

There are mysterious things that happen, for instance, her daughter has a severe allergy and needs an epi pen with her most times. So they are kept in certain places for emergency yet one is on the plane she works on. How did it get there? Any mother can empathize with Mina and that love of her daughter was pivotal to the plot which threads were like octopus' tentatcles confusing me. While I was curious, I wasn’t at the edge of my seat like I had hoped. The book felt too long and drawn out. I found myself skimming the whole way. This is the 4th book that I’ve read from this author and I have enjoyed them all. There were several things that I really loved about this book. There are many topics covered in this novel. Climate change and how many perceive the world to be on the brink of disaster if something isn’t done right now to change the ways we live, including air travel. could not put this book down...its grips you in such a way that you are going to lose sleep over it

Mina is a flight attendant who deliberately places herself aboard an inaugural non-stop flight from London to Sydney, Australia. This subterfuge, of a sort, is intended to give her a break from her husband, Adam, whom she believes has cheated on her, and her five-year-old, special needs daughter, Sophia. during the flight she receives a note saying that as long as she complies her daughter will be safe... This is a thriller like none I’ve read before. To be fair that’s probably because this kind of novel wouldn’t be my usual fare but I’ve read everything Clare has written so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. Mina has one of the coveted cabin crew spots onboard and takes off whilst Adam is left with Sophia and his own demons to deal with.... The novel is written from multiple POV which worked well in this setting – on the plane, at home, and what happened before. All the storylines combined well to create a comprehensive thriller. The narrative switches between Mina, in the aeroplane, and her husband at home, with other narrators/passengers in between. I loved how the story built up, and accumulated so many layers - a real onion of a book! Everyone had their own secrets and motives, and I loved how this was explored. The tension ratchets up brilliantly throughout the novel, and makes for a genuinely nail-biting read. And - no spoilers - but THAT ENDING! Another perfectly delivered final twist from the master of them.
