About this deal

WOW! Said the Owl, the acclaimed children’s book by award-winning author, Tim Hopgood, is brought to life through a blend of beautiful storytelling, puppetry and music. Directed by Joy Haynes, this show will delight and excite very young audiences. Wow! Said the Owl tells the story of a curious owl who stays awake all day instead of having her usual sleep. Read or watch the story with your child and try the activities below. They will help your child to explore colours and understand the difference between night and day.

Useful that they also use the correct colour names rather than 'purple' to expand their knowledge and vocabulary. Authors / Illustrators I find it really interesting to hear what authors and illustrators enjoy reading or have enjoyed reading with children. In this category you will find recommendations written by authors and illustrators along with books that they have written and / or illustrated. Everyone knows that owls are nocturnal but one curious little owl decides to take a long nap at night so she can stay awake during the day. Wow! Said The Owl is a simple, easy to read story with beautifully illustrated double spreads. Little owl’s reaction to all the beautiful colours she sees is simply ‘Wow!’ and children enjoyjoining in with therepetition, thisrepetition also makes this a great book for beginner readers.Little owl is the only character in the book and thestorystarts by explaining that owls stayawake during thenight before it introduces little owl’s very ‘un-owl-like’ behaviour. Throughout the day little owlsees seven different colours, some in the sky, some in the trees and flowers but also when it gets dark. I spy colours: Go outside to your garden or an outside space. Look around and play ‘I spy colours’, where one person says “I spy with my little eye, something blue.” Your child has to guess what it is. Try it with other colours.

Wow! Said The Owl is a beautifully illustrated picture book which introduces young children to the colours that are around them in the natural world. We are committed to making your visit to our theatres as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. All of our Front of House staff undergo disability awareness training and Dementia Friend Training and will be pleased to assist you should you require any information or help.

We are delighted to bring you a bright and bold exhibition for children, based on the much-loved book, ‘WOW! Said the Owl’ by Tim Hopgood. This family friendly exhibition opens on Saturday 10 October 2020 in the Nave gallery here at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre. One morning in a farmyard a spider begins to spin a web. All the animals try to persuade her to stop but she doesn't answer any of them; she is too busy spinning her web. When it comes to accommodation in Scotland, there's a fantastic choice of amazing stays from luxury hotels to glamping getaways. I liked this book as it had a nice story to it whilst also providing a clear range of colours for baby to look at. The colours are mainly pastel which is a nice contrast to most childrens books.

WOW! Said the Owl is the bestselling board book about colours by Tim Hopgood, winner of the Best Emerging Illustrator, Booktrust Early Years Award. As you are reading the story together, encourage your child to join in with repeated parts of the story: “Wow! Said the owl.” These performances are provided for those who use British Sign Language. The interpreter will be at the front of the stage and lit with a spotlight. They will provide a linguistic and artistic interpretation of the show for people who are D/deaf or for whom BSL is their preferred language. Here's the story of a curious little owl determined to see what the world looks like during the day. And what does she discover? A wow-worthy symphony of colors―from red butterflies to orange flowers, from white clouds to green leaves.

Because of Covid 19, the number of interactives in the exhibition has been reduced. However there’s still plenty to do. As only one group/bubble of up to six people will be allowed into the exhibition area at a time you’ll have room to explore those interactives with your children without worrying about social distancing. Think of different words to describe colours, using ideas from the story (e.g. warm and wonderful pink, bright blue). But despite the beauty of the daytime world, the little owl decides that the night-time stars are the most beautiful of all.

Talk about the things that your child does that make you say “wow!” For example, when they build a tall tower or help with the tidying up. Brilliant book! I had to work hard to encourage our baby to focus on books and this was THE book that got him hooked. He loved the repeated and enthusiastic use of the word 'wow' and of course the owl. Subsequently his first word was 'owl'. Find different pictures of objects / animals and sort them according to the colours that you can see.
