About this deal

When the action is over a more extended period or is relatively large and complex, define a goal – ideally one that is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) Wikipedia describes the Wheel of Life as a coaching tool used in life and management coaching to assess coaching priorities. But the wheel of life assessment is so much more than this! In many depictions of the Wheel of Life, the figure in the upper right-hand corner is a Dharmakaya Buddha. The dharmakaya is sometimes called the Truth Body or the Dharma Body and is identified with shunyata. Dharmakaya is everything, unmanifested, free of characteristics and distinctions. While there are many design variations, there seem to be only two key styles for the Life Balance Wheel. All the coaching wheels I have seen are plotted out in one of these two ways:

The original concept of the wheel of life was created by the late Paul J Meyer, who founded the Success Motivation Institute® in 1960. Today different variations of the wheel are used by coaches and those in the personal development space. It's the visual scoring on the life wheel that enables both client and coach to see which life areas the client feels good about—and which may need some work. And this feels authentic, empowering and good! Because from here we can work with our clients to make changes—and improve their quality of life. Professor Greg Whyte describes using The Wheel of Success in his book Achieve the Impossible (2015). Ask clients to rank their level of satisfaction with each area of their life by drawing a curved line across each segment (see image for example). Scoring is between 1 (very dissatisfied) and 10 (fully satisfied). While the wheel today has many different forms and names, including the Life Balance Wheel, Coaching Wheel, and the Wheel of Success, they share a common purpose: transformation. I think it's popular because it gives people an instant helicopter view of their life. This knowledge allows people to see for themselves which areas of their life feel good—and which need working on. And this is empowering! It allows our clients to make different choices as to where they focus their time and energy for a more satisfying life. We’ve left our worksheet blank so you can choose which areas you want to look at in your life. Need a little inspiration? Here are some categories you may want to include:

Oprah Winfrey uses 12 values in her wheel of life instead of areas of life as is more commonly used. Oprah’s Life Planner, The Life You Want starts with a wheel of life with 12 sections. There is one value in each section. Each section of the planner is devoted to each of the values. These are the 12 values that Oprah considers essential to expanding our heart space and allowing us to step into the fullness of our authentic selves. IntegrityBut consider that the wheel is also a powerful and ancient symbol—deeply embedded in the human psyche. It implies movement, the cycle of life, change, the opportunity to steer our life, balance, sustenance and more. And this symbolism runs deep in our consciousness. Key Considerations for using the Life Wheel Wheel of Life Worksheet, Wheel of life workbook, Wheel of Balance, Self Improvement, Life Goals, Smart goals, Life goals planner Now you know which areas need attention and what your ideal score for those areas would be. It’s time to create an action plan to make this happen. Ask yourself how you can prioritise these areas, what steps can you take to gently lift these scores and feel more balanced?
