The Summer House by James Patterson | Waterstones

I have read Ms. Denton’s previous novels and I think this was my favorite so far. It wasn’t hard to connect with any of the characters and they were all so likable, even the ones that meant to cause problems (in little ways). I do admit that I thought Rose a little rough in the beginning but it seems after she let Lily cut her hair that the doors of possibilities in her life just flew open! She had a different perspective even though she was still the same person, however, her heart had open to opportunities that otherwise would’ve stayed closed. As for their children... we have Paige, who is the eldest. She's a successful veterinarian with her own practice. She and her husband have two teenage children. At first glance, she seems to have her life together the most, but problems with her husband have been festering.

The Summer House - Penguin Books UK

My first AND LAST Patterson novel. The Summer House is a fairly lengthy murder mystery about a decorated group of Army Rangers who start out being accused of mercilessly gunning down a house full of civilians in a fake upscale coastal town in Georgia called “Sullivan.” The reader immediately knows (or should know) that it’s a frame job. The mystery, therefore, is the classic who-done-it variety. The Summer House was originally conceived, constructed and utilized as a seasonal retreat in rural Georgia for a wealthy family. However, over the decades, it passed outside of the family and gradually devolved into a by-the-month rental property, which, in the novel’s present, has fallen into disrepair and disrepute. Indeed, as the book opens, it is little more than a local hub for some small-time drug trade. The author has perfectly been spot on with her lay out of the characters for readers to bring them all together in what I see as a unique harrowing story, I could not put it down as we learn the truth of what happened all those years ago there are plenty of twists as we learn the truth, and I love a twisty book coming from twisty minds of killers. THE SUMMER HOUSE is filled with twists and turns and had me staying up way too late one night to finish! I had to know where Lauren K Denton was taking us and what would happen. The retirement community sounds like so much fun, full of fun characters, set on the coast with plenty of activities and a pool, but each person living there has their own cottage. Maybe its because this was the exact book I needed to read right now, but I loved THE SUMMER HOUSE. The sleepy town, the characters all sweet, but carrying their own baggage, the blossoming love of people who never thought they’d love again. I’m so excited to read more of Ms. Denton’s stories. She has a brand new fan now! An overwhelming suggestion for this to be added to your to be read list, as this is, as I mentioned at the beginning of this review, one of the best collaborations of 2020 from the James Patterson stable. So just go for it!

Lily and Rose form an unlikely friendship, and Lily’s salon soon becomes the place where residents share town gossip, as well as a few secrets. Lily soon finds herself drawn to Rose’s nephew, Rawlins—a single dad and shrimper who’s had some practice at starting over—and one of the residents may be carrying a torch for Rose as well. Lily is devastated to find a goodbye note and signed divorce papers on the kitchen table when she awakens. Before her brief marriage, she was a hairstylist, and she contemplates the possibility of leveraging this skill to make a fresh start. By chance, she notices a flyer advertising the need for a hairstylist in a nearby retirement community. Desperate for a job, she makes the call and shows up for the interview and also negotiates for the apartment above the salon. My Thoughts: This book encompasses everything you think about when you hear the words summer house - a gorgeous setting, a dysfunctional family, and drama, drama, drama.

The Woman from Paris is your eleventh novel. Was there any element of writing this novel that differed from your previous novels? How you do you think you have grown as a writer from your first novel, Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree? Kudos, Messrs. Patterson and DuBois, for a great novel that came out of nowhere. I am hope others who are on the fence about Patterson give this one a try and see what a good collaborator can do for a novel. This was the perfect summer beach read!! At the beginning I felt pain for Lily when she found that “dear Jane” note, and indignation for her at her mother in law. What a nightmare of a woman. I really enjoyed the retirement community! I loved the gossip at the salon...I was picturing scenes straight out of “Steel Magnolias” Dolly Parton and all. A popular family, particularly beautiful Camille, friends were always welcome at Mead house, so again, who could have wanted Camille out of the way. Before writing my review, I want to thank NetGalley, Keri Beevis, and Boldwood Books for gifting me the ARC of THE SUMMER HOUSE! It was such a privilege to read this before publication. And I appreciate you trusting me with an honest review. Another satisfying read from Beevis and a great example of great mystery writing. I think there is only one other book that I have yet to read by this author and am certainly confident it will be just as good. If this is a writer you have yet to discover, then get moving and start off with this enjoyable murder mystery.
