The worst part? There is actually a reader's guide!!!! I admit, it fooled me - I thought "oh, a reader's guide, yes, it seems like a boring book, but it certainly will get better - it has a reader's guide". Ok, that's my bad. But I learned my lesson - never again will I be fooled by a publisher like that! One of the strengths of this novel is its clever use of dual timelines. The story shifts between the events leading up to the mass shooting and the present day, creating a sense of suspense and intrigue. However, some readers might find that the transitions between timelines occasionally break the momentum of the story, especially when they are deeply engrossed in one timeline and are suddenly pulled into another. The character of Cal Farrell is well-drawn, and readers will empathize with his struggle to come to terms with his hero status and his memory loss. Schweigart creates a cast of characters with authentic and relatable relationships, making readers root for the underdog and become invested in the story’s outcome. Starred Review. A child-on-child murder drives Ballantyne's searing debut ...[A] scalding exploration of childhood violence, adult refusal to forgive, and redemptive love." - Publishers Weekly I liked that Emma was a complicated character, and both she and Angela, in particular, were multi-layered and real feeling which you don't always get with these type of procedural books that focus more on plot than characterization. In 'The Guilty One', Detective Cal Farrell has been hailed as a hero ever since he stymied an active shooter but that label never felt right. He remains troubled by his non-recollection of the tragic Very Hot Day. Things get uglier when he spots a body strung immensely high up on a tree during a morning run.

Bill Schweigart recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing his latest thriller, THE GUILTY ONE. About the Book: Shifting between past events and present moments, this story follows Detective Cal Farrell, as he works to identify a deranged serial killer who seems to be coming for him. This thriller definitely had twists and turns in abundance! The reasons for Jasmine's death and the suspects keep changing till the end of the book and even then there is a twist that I didn't see coming. The secrets that are eventually revealed are disturbing and the actual reason for Jasmine's murder even more so! First of all, thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for providing an arc of the book. This book has been released on 21st March 2023. But what crime did Minnie commit that made Daniel disregard her for fifteen years? And will Daniel’s identification with a child on trial for murder make him question everything he ever believed in?

Stream It Or Skip It: ‘Louis Tomlinson: All Of Those Voices’ On Paramount+, Where The Ex-One Direction Singer Finds Himself As He Flies Solo I generally like police procedurals but I couldn’t get into this. I Dnf. Not sure if it had to do with the story, narrator or my mood. I didn’t find the book particular memorable. It’s something you may read to pass the time. A good airplane book maybe. The story progresses slowly and you may have to commit yourself to finishing it. This book isn’t filled with explosions and twists and turns. There is a small bit of anticipation but you may get bored before you see your anticipation fulfilled. I would say this though, it is not so easy to guess the end.

Cum îl afectează totul pe avocat? Ce face în plan personal? Are sau nu regrete pentru felul în care s-a purtat cu Minnie? Emma is an ex cop who is traumatized by past events that she tries to forget by drinking. Jasmine and Nicolas are twins who just celebrated their birthday. During the night, tragedy strikes, leaving one twin dead and the other one on the run. Emma is recruited by a defense attorney who is more concerned about winning her cases and less about the truth. Emma starts her investigation and finds hidden secrets, that people are willing to do anything to keep quiet. Emma finds evidence that Nicolas is innocent, now she has to prove this fact to everyone else. A riveting thriller, with a suspenseful plot and engaging characters.

Twenty years ago, Antoine Fuqua directed the well-regarded Denzel Washington/Ethan Hawke thriller Training Day. That’s easy to remember, because the trailer for nearly every movie Fuqua has made since then has dropped “from the director of Training Day” as a major enticement. (Other similarly successful movies from fall 2001 do not share this distinction. “From the director of Don’t Say a Word” hasn’t become universal marketing shorthand.) It’s indicative of how closely associated Fuqua has become with cop movies, even though they only make up a small portion of his filmography. He’s done sci-fi ( Infinite), a boxing picture ( Southpaw), and a Western (the remake of The Magnificent Seven), alongside plenty of non-cop action movies and Denzel vehicles. The story was exciting, and extremely well researched, Ballantynes referencing was excellent and concise.

I did not guess the plot twist that came towards the end of the book although when I think about it, it was right there all the time!

Some of the writing is clunky and burdened with a little too much detail on the wrong areas, and the description of a character's face being "shaped like a melon seed" had me laughing out loud, which I'm sure wasn't intended. Was it broad at the forehead with a pointy chin.....like an alien, or the other way round? Either way it's clumsy and makes for a lovely mental picture. Surely "heart-shaped" would have been better. I found the ending quite predictable but will say no more than that. As the movie ends, we hear soundbites of journalists declaring that LAPD detective Joe Baylor pled guilty to manslaughter. Billed as a mystery, this is really a haunting and sad case study of two very damaged young boys. The protagonist, Daniel, is a solicitor assigned to defend eleven year Sebastian, a creepily precocious boy who has been accused of brutally murdering his much younger playmate Ben. The case comes at the same time that Daniel learns of the death of the kind and generous Minnie, the woman who basically saved his life so many years ago when she adopted him.Fleming, Mike Jr. (August 23, 2021). "Netflix Dates Fall Movies: A Whopping 42 Movies Coming At You". Deadline Hollywood . Retrieved August 23, 2021. This is my first book by Bill Schweigart and it will not be my last! This is a fast paced, twisty, thriller that is full of suspense and psychological drama. The dual timelines were very well done. The plots were well threaded and developed as well as the characters. I consumed this in a day as I had to know how it ended. It also had a few twists that I did not expect but were nicely tied into the various plot lines that ran through out the novel. Lisa Ballantyne is becoming one of my go to authors when I am looking for my next read. This is another excellent read and a very enjoyable legal thriller that I couldn’t put down,
