About this deal

From here they continue their journey, but what is happening. Who is the man? Lars they decide is the man in Hal's drawing - he looks like The Shadow but he's not. A high-speed train journey worth catching . . .The best yet' - The Times on Murder on the Safari Star

Thank you Macmillan Publishers and Netgalley for letting me read this early in exchange for a review! All opinions are mine 😀 Hal and Uncle Nat are travelling to see the Northern Lights during the festive season, and as the title may suggest, yup, there's an assassin aboot! The Arctic Railway Assassin is the sixth instalment in the bestselling Adventures on Trains series. Hal and Uncle Nat travel to Sweden, boarding the overnight train to Narvik, the northernmost station in Europe, to see the Northern Lights just before Christmas. But danger is not far behind. As with the other books in the series, this works very well as a standalone read but there is such enormous pleasure to be gained from all of the titles that I really would recommend starting your reading from the beginning. Throughout the series, the stories have been greatly complemented by the artistic skills of Elisa Paganelli, whose maps and illustrations are a joy to behold, and this title is no exception. It was wonderful to be able to finally get together and celebrate all the wonderful people who brought these stories to life and into the hands of eager young readers. Special thanks go to Elisa Paganelli who is the artist behind Hal, and who illustrated every book, doing all the maps and covers too. Jot Davies is the talented actor who voices the audiobooks. Sarah Hughes is our incredible editor. Kirsty McLachlan is our fabulous agent. Really the list goes on and on. Despite what you may hear, making books is a collaborative process. The descriptions of Sweden are stunning. There are fantastic geographical connections to be made. Having grown-up in Canada, I know that snow is never just snow. There is so much movement and sparkle, so many different consistencies and levels of cold. Sam Sedgman and MG Leonard capture this from both inside the train and outside on the ice. I love the connections to the Sámi culture and their relationship with reindeer. Well, I don't know about anyone else I really want to go on a fancy train journey. Although I'd prefer not to meet any murderers along the way. This particular train sounds just right because whilst I don't like the cold the idea of a Christmas market somewhere snowy and the Northern Lights as well would sell it to me.

Last year Twitch was longlisted and I can’t pretend I wasn’t disappointed when it didn’t make the shortlist. Praise for the series: 'Like Murder on the Orient Express but better!' - Frank Cottrell-Boyce on The Highland Falcon Thief. 'A first class choo-choo-dunnit!' - David Solomons on Kidnap on the California Comet. 'A high-speed train journey worth catching . . .The best yet' - The Times on Murder on the Safari Star. 'This series just gets better and better' - Maz Evans on Danger at Dead Man's Pass. It scarcely seems possible that the sixth book in this amazing series is here and yet it is. Having followed Hal’s adventures since Book 1, the news that this is the last in that series has come as a bit of a nasty surprise to me but having read this I can tell you that this is, like the titles that precede it, an incredible adventure that will not leave fans disappointed and a brilliantly written ending to the stories which have thrilled so many. Hal is completing his usual drawings all the time, he is particularly fascinated by the train stations which are cavernous and like art galleries! Whilst waiting for the Narvik train he draws an orchestral group, one of the players sees and introduces herself. They are on the same train as they are due to play in Abisko.

A thrilling and hugely entertaining adventure story' – David Walliams on The Highland Falcon Thief , the first journey in the Adventures on Trains series. I am a big fan of this series and thoroughly enjoyed this new addition. Love the mystery, the travel and the relationships. I think I read somewhere that this might be the last book in the series, but I very much hope it isn’t because I would keep reading train mysteries in new locations! Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ Writer Tom MacRae, Buccaneer Media Join Nevision’s ‘Beetle Boy’ Adaptation The Arctic Railway Assassin can be read as a stand-alone novel, or enjoyed as part of the award-winning Adventures on Trains series written by M. G. Leonard and Sam Sedgman. Join Hal and Uncle Nat on more stops in this thrilling series with: Murder on the Safari Star , Danger at Dead Man's Pass and Sabotage on the Solar Express. In Danger at Dead Man’s Pass (book 4 in the Adventures on Trains series), we learned about Uncle Nat’s mysterious past. In this new adventure, his Cold War connections lead the pair into very real danger. This extra layer to the story is incredibly intriguing – I want to know more about Uncle Nat’s life before the train mysteries began!

It’s always such a pleasure to meet readers (young and old), and Cheltenham puts on one of the very best festival in the country.A thrilling and hugely entertaining adventure story' - David Walliams on The Highland Falcon Thief, the first journey in the Adventures on Trains series. RTE (the Irish BBC) have made a half-hour programme about the label, which I was pleased to take part in. They were happy years for me and I learned a lot. The wonderful puppetry company Wolfsburger Figuren Theater, in Germany, are creating a show based on my picturebook The Tale of a Toothbrush - a story of plastic in the ocean. It will be called Sammy - Die ungewohnliche Reise einer Zahnburste. A thrilling and hugely entertaining adventure story' – David Walliams on The Highland Falcon Thief, the first journey in the Adventures on Trains series. This time the mystery involves an assassin, a weapon of unimaginable power, and a threat to the life of Harrison and and his Uncle Nat.

Ignoring the fact that it should have been introduces way earlier in the series, we find out Uncle Nat has a partner? by the name of James. Love, love, love this series so much. The sixth and I think final installment of the Adventures on Trains series sees Hal and his uncle Nat on a train to the Arctic circle, the problem being there is also an assassin aboard! The winners of The Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards 2023, highlighting the work schools are doing to encourage a love of reading, have... The setting is of course a train, however the descriptions of the places they go, people they see and where they are are always written so brilliantly, you barely need the wonderful illustrations this book comes with, however this book is enriched and brought to life by the artwork throughout.

The collaboration between MGLeonard and Sam Sedgman to write this series was absolutely genius. This latest book holds all the same intrigue and master storytelling as the previous ones. This is one of the books that however many copies there are on the shelf it's never enough as the kids just devour them. Author Guy Bass introduces SCRAP, about one robot who tried to protect the humans on his planet against an army of robots. Now the humans need his...
