About this deal

CJD87 I would happily swallow a 20% price increase as well, but I doubt it would be only 20%. One of the neat things about the Split Pad Compact and Pro as they are is that they draw such a small amount of power that they're powered by the Switch itself with no noticeable drain. If you start adding more components, you're going to have too much of a draw on the Switch's battery, meaning that each individual Compact or Pro unit would need to have a rechargeable battery. So, you've got rumble, gyro, and a rechargeable battery added to each unit. My guess is that the increase in cost would be closer to 50%.

InJeffable Yeh 100% mate, and the split compact certainly looks "the part" moreso than its larger bulkier brother! Without motion, hd rumble or NFC it's really pointless to use them in TotK since the game really uses those features. You'll be giving yourself a lesser experience. And i would like to get an OLED Switch too at some point even though the difference from regular to OLED is not huge. Big, not huge. But it is kind of pricey, it is 100 dollars just to upgrade. And then i might be too attached to sell my original Switch too, it happens. I did not sell my GBA when i got a GBA SP.

InJeffable Yes the link you just sent is the one I'm looking at. The all-white looks really fresh, and will really suit the white/yellow compact joycons I already have from HORI. As for the pro controller, I ditched that thing for the 8bitdo Ultimate for a while now… it puts the pro to shame. In total for Switch, I own a standard Pro Controller; wireless Hori Sonic; Pac-Man Split Pad Pro; Power-A wireless Mario Bros. 3 and Twilight Princess; and Power-A wired Super Mario Bros., Kirby, and Metroid Dread. I also have Joy-Con in grey, OLED white, blue Skyward Sword edition, and two pairs of Animal Crossing ones I never use. I actually really like it. I was planning on buying a new Power A wireless controller so seeing another new option is great. I am not 100% sold on this one though. There could be a different older variant I might like, or another new one that gets released that I will want instead.

USB Type-C connector: You can use the enclosed USB charging cable to pair the controller with the console or to charge it. You can also connect it directly to an AC adapter. I'm 99% sure I want to get that, but would you rate it and recommend? (assuming this is the one you have)

CJD87 Besides the comfort, one thing I like about the Split Pad Compact is that it maintains the design language of the Switch with Joy-Cons attached. It looks like something Nintendo themselves might have made if they had decided to make a bigger version of the Joy-Cons. EDIT: also owned the switch pad pro and felt similarly to you just never felt comfortable and found the slim much better The Split Pad Compact is the perfect middle ground between the original Nintendo joy cons (which are far too small!) and the large Hori Split Pad Pro. The SP compact is definitely larger enough to make playing easier, but not too bulky. Olmectron Yes, the split pad compact is not perfect for Zelda without motion controls, unfortunately I end up swapping them for normal joycons when I need that or use the Switch Pro Controller. I can understand the appeal of gyro aiming for TotK and why you'd prefer a controller that can offer that.

As always, unfortunately the controllers don't have the functionality that you'd come to expect from the joycon or pro-controllers. It's a shame, since I really like these designs.

ryu_san A shame these don't have motion controls, given Zelda TOTK Will use gyro aiming for arrows and whatnot.
