I primarily play Republic and share a collection with my brother who plays CIS. Take a look at the list of 24 minis above, each of which have their own sculpt, their own unit card, their own interactions with each other. Many of these characters (most glaringly Jango) are long overdue for a Legion release but have not even been hinted at by the developers. Republic and CIS continue to miss key features enjoyed by the Civil War factions such as a third corps, a creature trooper, more than two operatives, and an emplacement (none of which, again, have been hinted at being under development) and while the Civil War factions are getting their 7th/8th operatives the stuff many of us have been hoping for is being made for a different game.

When a model’s health pool is exhausted, they’re laid down and effectively taken off the battlefield. They can’t contest objectives, take any more damage, trigger abilities, and so on. The next time they would activate they stand up, clear their damage, and take a full activation before gaining a Wound token. At this point if their Wound tokens equal their Durability stat they’re removed. Shatterpoint is snappy yet full of tactical depth. Despite being a skirmish game, matches are likely to push 90 minutes or more if you go the full 3 skirmishes and every minute is going to be layered with decision after decision. Overlapping abilities minimize downtime, combat comes with as much movement as an activation, and list building options will only grow.

Star Wars: Shatterpoint, developed by Atomic Mass Games, is a brand new skirmish scale wargame that is thematically set firmly in the Clone Wars. We know for sure there will be future releases from the entire Star Wars timeline but it’s clear from getting a few games in that Shatterpoint does not play like the Original Trilogy. No one can accuse Atomic Mass Games of sitting on their licensing laurels. When it comes to producing well regarded, high quality skirmish games, they have two currently in production and have a fairly busy release schedule for both. However, following an announcement yesterday, next summer there is going to be a third added, entitled Star Wars: ShatterPoint. So far details are fairly sparse. Strategize: Shatterpoint’s fun and flexible squad-building experience invites players to create custom strike teams optimized to complete the various mission objectives. Players can choose thematic squads straight from the Star Wars galaxy, like Ahsoka Tano™ and Bo-Katan Kryze™, Lord Maul™ and his loyalist super commandos, or mix and match their favourite characters to form the custom squads they want to play.
