About this deal

The Galaxy S20 is powered by one of two different chipsets, and where you live will decide which version you’re getting. If you’re in the US you’ll get Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 865 chipset, while those around the rest of the world get Samsung’s similarly high-end Exynos 990. We reviewed the 5G version of the phone, and this review will mostly focus on that device as it's the more commonly available handset. The front-facing camera is a 32MP f/2.0 snapper, but note that if you take a regular selfie, you’re not getting a 32MP picture – that’s because this sensor is paired with a wide-angle lens. You’ll only get a high-res picture if you take a wider shot, while if it’s a close-up featuring just you, the photo will be automatically cropped. In testing, I found this to be the most colour accurate of the three screen profiles at my disposal, although it suffered from noticeably oversaturated red tones and undersaturated pink and purple tones, so it isn’t perfect. However, you can rest assured that the screen has a pin-sharp contrast ratio of Infinity:1 and it’s also capable of reaching a blinding maximum brightness of 748cd/m2. Samsung Galaxy S20 review: Performance and battery life

There are a few different power-saving modes that you can enable, each of which turns off certain features, and if you buy the Galaxy S20 FE we’d recommend that you experiment with these if you want to max-out your battery life. Battery Capacity (Typical): Typical value tested under third-party laboratory condition. Typical value is the estimated average value considering the deviation in battery capacity among the battery samples tested under IEC 61960 standard. Rated (minimum) capacity is 4370mAh. Actual battery life may vary depending on network environment, usage patterns and other factors. However, Samsung has increased the size of individual pixels here, from 1.4 microns to 1.8 microns. Combined with the larger sensor, you should be able to capture more detail and more light with the Galaxy S20’s main snapper, and we found that to be the case when shooting in darker scenarios. If you’ve read our Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra review then you’ll know we weren’t that impressed with its battery life, especially when you consider the size of the phone. I’m a little more accepting of the middling endurance of the S20 since smaller phones have smaller batteries (4000mAh here vs 5000mAh on the Ultra).

While it’s a great Android phone, there are very few surprises here. It looks like a Samsung flagship, takes the kind of photos you expect from a Samsung flagship and has the same software as any other Samsung flagship. That’s not a bad thing, but there isn’t much here to bring in new fans. Whether it’s work, play, or somewhere in between, your always-on world should run smoothly. Enter, the Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Processor. The latest iteration promises dynamic gaming, with an improved CPU, GPU and cooling system. So even the most demanding online multiplayer marathons will feel like a breeze. As on the S10 range, the fingerprint scanner is embedded in the display. We found this to be faster and more reliable than the option on the Galaxy S10, but it isn’t perfect with us regularly having to retry our digits on the reader to be able to access the phone.

Because, as it turns out, while the Galaxy S20’s suite of cameras excel in a few areas, they don’t quite match the sheer excellence of the iPhone 11’s image and video captures. While I was self-isolating due to the ongoing coronavirus threat, I snapped a few gloomy scenes of London from my balcony and I found that the Galaxy S20 did a better job at suppressing visual noise, with slightly more contrast than its Apple rival. Whether you're looking to pair the new Pixel watch 2 with the Pixel 8, or the Samsung Watch6 with the Galaxy Z Flip5, O2 has a range of Smartwatches you can perfectly pair with your Android phone.

The Samsung S20 has a 6.2-inch display, offering exactly 0.1-inch more screen real estate than 2019’s 6.1-inch S10. It doesn’t dramatically change the overall size of the phone, and its max resolution remains the same as that of recent Samsung Galaxy S models at WQHD+ (3040 x 1440).
