Additionally, the variation between these torsos shows how LEGO printing has developed, with crisper lines. There are also some new printed elements, including a set of three unique printed tiles to make a mosaic floor. You’ll get 64 of the regular 2×2 tiles, 6 of the corner design 2×2 tiles, and 7 of the shield tiles.

There we have all of the figures included in the set. Most of the designated characters offer varying degrees of improvement on a previous figure, although the new Sam and Aragorn figures are more consistent with their appearances at Rivendell, compared to the original versions (Aragorn in the Wild, and Sam as he appeared at Ciruth Ungel). Anubis Guard • Charlie the Funland Robot • Dada-Doo • Daphne • Fred • Mummy • Mumsy-Doo • Scooby-Doo • Shaggy • Velma The line work on the characters is all of a finer gauge and relatively simplified compared to a decade ago. In the meantime, the increased use of gold and silver metallic inks increases the detail, particularly amongst the elven folk. If there’s one Lord of the Rings set to rule them all, Rivendell is certainly the One! The most ambitious set in the series to date, Rivendell captures the scene and the formation of the legendary Fellowship of the Ring. Members of the group seek to find the Ring of Power and destroy it. This article accordingly compares the previous minifigures with their successors. I'm just gonna copy and paste what I wrote on the Rivendell announcement article, where I did my own comparisons based on the pictures:

LEGO Lord of the Rings sets enable you to recreate all the exciting scenes from the Lord of the Rings series, ranging from the Pirate Ship Ambush to the Battle at Helm’s Deep! Starting in 2012, LEGO has manufactured 16 different Lord of the Rings LEGO sets. Azog \ Berserker Uruk-hai \ Goblin King \ Goblin Scribe \ Goblin Soldier \ Gundabad Orc \ Hunter Orc \ Lurtz \ Mordor Orc \ Moria Orc \ Narzug \ Uruk-hai \ Yazneg The stubble and beard is well suited to the character’s appearance in the movie. He has a wry smile and a slightly angry look. Again, the older expressions are more aggressive than the new ones. The new Ranger Sword is longer than the old longsword, and has a more detailed mould for the blade, cross piece, handle and pommel! The older figure had tan legs, with a grey tunic. The top end of the Evenstar jewel that was given to Aragorn by Arwen can be seen hanging beneath his shirt. Both of these figures are excellent, but the one included in Rivendell is more appropriate for the setting. The Statues In The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Gimli is portrayed by John Rhys-Davies who also provided the voice of Treebeard. In addition, Davis also played Sallah in the Indiana Jones films and made an uncredited cameo as Glóin in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Barrow-wight \ Bert \ Durin's Bane \ Elk \ Fell Beast \ Mini-Balrog \ Mrs. Troll \ Oliphant \ Olog-hai \ River Troll \ Shadowfax \ Snow Troll \ Troll Bouncer \ Tom \ Tom Bombadil \ The Watcher in the Water \ WilliamSam's attire has been updated, but maybe more interesting is the hair element shared between them. The mould remains the same and includes brilliant texture, which is testament to the high quality of the original piece. However, the hair colour has been darkened and I think dark orange is effective. Gloin was one of the dwarfs that joined Bilbo on the journey to Erabor, many years ago. He has come to Rivendell with his son Gimli. His beard piece now allows for a long straight hairpiece in white. His face is wrinkled, and I presume that because the beard obscures most of his facial details, there is no alternative face print. His torso, however, is not a new print, having also been used for Tony Stark and Owen Grady PurpleDave Using a Sharpie to recolour LEGO is very much a case of the lesser of two evils. While I will just about consider it for elf ears and a bit of decolletage, larger areas are more than I feel comfortable with. On the other hand, I much prefer the older versions of Aragorn, Arwen and (aside from the legs) Sam. Aragorn's new face looks good, but I prefer his original outfit and more serious expression; Arwen just feels a little bland here, especially since she uses the same hairpiece as all the other elves while her original minifigure had a unique piece. And Sam... well, if the orange shade for the hair that was used for Merry last time was changed to lighter here because it was too dark for him, it also feels too dark for Sam as well... though that is perhaps a product of making each Hobbit have a different hair colour. His original's slightly more rumpled look and determined expression, too, feel more authentic to me; although I guess since those are a product of his and Frodo's journey to Mordor, it makes sense that he doesn't display them yet in this earlier scene. There are some other sets where he has hair, rather than a hat element. The older version also has unprinted legs. There are 2 face prints in existence, depending on the cheek lines, with the longer lines being found in the LEGO Dimensions sets. The new robe is much more detailed, as is the robe element. Boromir The dress piece for Gandalf looks great but I think his face looks horrible in my opinion. His eyes just look too youthful.Legolas is by far the biggest disappointment. The face does not fit him at all, and the one-size-fits-all approach to the elf hair in this set is just not very good. I don’t remember ever seeing his hair go over his ears in the movies. Although the most recent Lord of the Rings sets were released in 2013, some Hobbit-themed sets were released more recently (that’s a topic for a different day, however). After a 10 year hiatus, LEGO launched the massive Lord of the Rings Rivendell, a 6074-piece set with 21 minifigures.

Gimli was arguably the most impressive of the original Fellowship of the Ring minifigures, given the exceptional decoration on his helmet and the complexity of his beard. I am surprised that the older helmet has been replaced, although the new piece looks fantastic too. The beards differ as well, but the most significant change is the use of medium legs, of course.Boromir's minifigure has undergone a surprising degree of change since 2012, despite featuring the same attire. Once again, the torso design is visibly simplified, while the legs are now entirely dark blue. I understand the reasoning behind the original dark bluish grey section, but prefer the uniform colour. Also, his eyes don’t fit his beard and helmet very well at all. Love the medium legs though and the new helmet is great even if it was a bit superfluous.
