You can wear this masculine, fresh scent to any outdoor event during the day, as it complements that really well. With all the woody notes, it has that green/herbal type of scent that you would expect it to. As Drakkar dries down, I get more leather and spice then I do at first, and the cologne maintains its masculinity. The dry down is the best part of this fragrance, in my opinion. Overall, is Drakkar Noir worth a buy? Yes, but, it doesn’t blow me away. I think it’s pretty good. It doesn’t fit my personal style, but I can certainly appreciate it. Maybe, I would’ve enjoyed the vintage formulation a lot more than the current one. As it dries down, more patchouli is present, with a fresh cedar note. Has enough in common with Drakkar Noir, but has its own personality, which makes it distinct.

It does smell different, from the current formulations of Drakkar Noir, to be sure. It gives you the full range of aromas, from woody to soapy to herbal, with a great depth and very good performance. Oh, did I mention it is available for super cheap? It all comes together as really green, herbal, and outdoorsy. This is the basic formula for about 30-45 minutes.

Drakkar Noir is probably best suited to the 25+ crowd. Teens and early twenty-somethings who like fougères, or classic scents in general, will like this one. Those who prefer light, sweet, or more modern scents won’t like it. The Opening Another note that shines in the beginning, is the super crisp mint note. It brings a definite cooled air to the composition, it’s that usual sharp spice, which contrasts extremely well versus the lavender, oak moss, and leather notes. Eventually, the sample ran out. I kept the empty specimen for a while and in the meantime tried all kinds of (shaving) waters, many of which were good, but not nearly as good as Drakkar Noir.Longevity is moderate at best with this cologne, technically an eau de toilette, and most wearers will get 3 – 5 hours of scent with this one. It will be a skin scent on most people after 2 – 3 hours making it safe for office wear, for school, or any place the wearer will be in close quarters with other people who might have scent allergies. Who is Drakkar Noir For? The next cologne was also launched in the 1980s, but much later than Drakkar Noir. This clone is Lomani pour Homme by Lomani. The next cologne is another vintage scent called Royale by Rasasi. Royale is a good dupe of Drakkar Noir, and it’s evident right when you spray it. Fougères are typically considered winter scents, but this one could work year-round. Some wearers might find this too strong in the heat of summer, but spraying less could solve that problem.

Drakkar Noir is a beautiful blend of numerous floral, herbal, and fruity notes combined with rich, smokey, masculine base notes. The base notes of patchouli, musk, moss, and amber are the key players in this cologne as the dry down approaches. The notes are rich, it lasts long, and projects really well. In The Lonely Island's album/special, The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience, Mark McGuire ( Akiva Schaffer) states that his crib smells like Drakkar Noir Projection wise, Drakkar is still pretty damn good, in that regard. I know it has been reformulated over the years, and while I don’t have a vintage bottle to compare it to, it still projects itself nicely. Dakar – Al-Rehab Eau De Natural Perfume Spray – 50 ml (1.65 fl. oz) – I wasn’t around for the 1980s original version of Noir, but from what I’ve read, this is the closest thing around to recreating its magic.
