Crawfords Custard Creams are another of my favourites, along with their Bourbons, Garibaldi and Nice. Crawfords have been in the Biscuit making business for over 200 years and they certainly know how to do it. Their biscuits have always been a frim favourite in our house and I remember them from my childhood. Then biscuits were more of a luxury and definitely not an every day thing, well in our house anyway. They have a wonderfully rich creamy filling with a lovely vanilla flavour sandwiched between 2 crunchy biscuits. A perfect balance, not too sweet and the biscuit isn't too hard either. I always mention the sweetness as some can be too sweet, which overpowers the flavour and all you can taste it the sugar. I have tried others, but these are still my brand of choice. Great on their own or with a cuppa. With its classic design of two layers of biscuit sandwiching a tasty cream centre, its Victorian swirls, and its multitude of ways to be eaten, the Custard Cream is quite simply a British institution. A favourite in almost every household, together with Custard Creams. Crawfords Bourbon Creams are crisp, tasty and the filling is just creamy enough. Delicious dunked, especially in cocoa or hot chocolate, excellent value for money. A biscuit barrel must. I always thought the name Bourbon came from the vanilla used to flavour them but my husband swears he can taste a slight hint of bourbon whisky in the cream filling. Who knows? In 1856, William Crawford (1818–1889) bought an established bakery at 31 The Shore, Leith from Robert Mathie (1789–1863). The bakery specialised in ships' biscuits and had been established in 1813, [2] [3] with Mathie taking it over in 1817. [4]My favourite biscuits. Beautiful rich crunchy chocolate on the outside with a lush smooth chocolate cream filling. Glasgow biscuit factory closure plan puts nearly 500 jobs at risk". BBC News. 11 May 2021 . Retrieved 24 June 2022. It started as a Scottish baker of ship's biscuits in a public house on The Shore, Leith in 1813. The bakery was acquired by Robert Mathie in 1817 and then William Crawford in 1856, when Mathie retired. William Crawford & Sons established large factories in Leith and Liverpool so that, at its peak, it was one of Britain's largest biscuit manufacturers and claimed to be its oldest. The company was acquired by United Biscuits in 1960 and is now a brand within their portfolio. LOVE Crawford's Custard Creams they're just right for a bit of something special without being too much. The vanilla flavour is very good, and the biscuits are just right flavorful without overshadowing the cream. I keep these around !! a b "Crawford's – The Oldest of the Biscuit Manufacturers", The Illustrated London News, p.727, 28 April 1923

Years ago, I used to dunk them in my tea, this annoyed my mum but the taste was worth the telling off. Some of the biscuits in this list contain palm oil, which may or may not be sustainably sourced. Some vegans choose to avoid palm oil that hasn’t been certified as sustainable because its production destroys the habitats of animals. Cross contamination Custard Creams. Crawford's are the best. They have a really creamy centre and crisp cookie. They actually taste like custard. I've tried a lot of other brands. The custard taste is not as creamy as the Crawford's. I have seen Orange creams in the past. I'm not sure if they still make them or if they were a temporary item. I'd love to see them again. I think custard creams are one of the nicest biscuits on the market, the filling takes this treat to the next level. These go great with a nice cup of British tea. I recommend these to anyone who hasn't tried them yet. Especially anyone from overseas! Crawfords Bourbon Creams are a perfect accompaniment during afternoon tea. Whenever I am offered a plate of biscuits or a tin of tasty biscuits, I can't pass these up. My tastebuds tend to gravitate towards the creamy chocolate fondant centre sandwiched between two chocolate flavoured biscuits. I've loved these sweet treats since my childhood and I'll never get tired of them.
