About this deal

Early in 2012, Fuji released the X-Pro 1 system, with this 35mm f/1,4 being one of the 3 flag-ship Fujifilm lenses. The Fujifilm X mount is compatible with Fujinon lenses specifically designed for Fujifilm X series cameras.

Optically, the lens produces massive barrel distortion, but it’s taken care of with in-camera correction, or when using Canon’s Digital Photo Professional processing software. Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM: VerdictAdding depth and a sense of inclusion also occurs when using a wide angle lens. You feel like you’re more part of the scene, in the image, than those shot with longer telephoto lenses. Take complete creative control of your images with PIXMA and imagePROGRAF PRO professional photo printers. Having a wide maximum aperture means you can shoot at lower ISO, so you will get more detailed and cleaner photos. That may be a good record of what the shop looks like – but remember to use the tips above to make a stronger image. Street vendor in Havana, Cuba 17mm lens (full frame)

Regardless, don't be afraid to get much closer! This is where wide angle really shines. Just take extra care with the composition though; extremely close objects can move a lot inside the image due to camera movements of even a fraction of an inch. It can therefore become quite difficult to frame subjects the way you want. CONVERGING VERTICALSFor portrait photography, I prefer a prime lens such as the XF90mm F2.0 because of its sharpness and bokeh ” explains Andrew Hall. The ‘R’ is an abbreviation of ‘Ring’, and signifies that the lens is equipped with an aperture ring. i.e. you can use the ring around the lens to control the lens’ aperture value. The last mistake beginners make is to use a wide angle lens just because it’s cool, or funky, or different. Consciously look for subjects that will look great shot with a wide lens, and follow the tips above. Converging lines of a long hallway lead the viewer into the scene. Iconic Bally’s entrance in Vegas, which is now gone! I’m really glad I took this shot now.

A final word has to be reserved for the lens’ geometry, which while not bad, isn’t perfect – there’s a fair bit of barrel distortion. As with vignetting and purple fringing, this is something even a barely-competent photo editor will be able to sort more or less invisibly, but it’s worth bearing in mind that your images might need a touch more editing before they’re shareable. The 50 mm prime lens, popularly known as the nifty fifty lens, is also called the normal or standard lens. Almost all types of photographers will have one 50mm lens in their kit. It is mainly due to the fact that the perspective of this focal length is similar to the perspective of the human eye. Do I need a 50mm lens if I have a 18-55mm? Next, you have maximum aperture and coma. Many lenses, even though they are wide angles with maximum apertures, suffer from a defect called “ coma”. That is when the stars instead of being spots, take different shapes, often being streaks or Dorito-shaped. Above: A young Moon, not to mention light pollution in Brighton may have illuminated the sky, but zooming-in does reveal some stars, and taking a closer look in the middle of the image shows they’re points of light. As you move towards the corners (as seen above in a magnified view), they remain fairly well-behaved until you reach the extremes when some coma becomes visible.

Now, look at the two images of the bike below. In the one on the left nothing really stands out in the image. By getting even closer the bike is made more of the focus in the image. I’m mere inches from the front tire in the second shot. Being able to use slower shutter speeds in low light will allow you to use lower ISOs, which in turn leads to a cleaner final image.

For example, in landscape photography the foreground foliage is often much less intensely lit than the sky or a distant mountain. This often results in an over-exposed sky and/or an under-exposed foreground. Most photographers therefore use what is called a graduated neutral density (GND) filter to overcome this uneven lighting. Don’t be put off by the relatively ‘slow’ maximum aperture of f/4 – wide-angle lenses always produce a deeper depth of field, unless you’re right up close to your subject. Having a deep depth of field is also more relevant for landscape and architectural photography. Get closer, have a well defined and clear subject, include less “stuff”, take wide angle people photos properly, and make conscious decisions about using your wide, or selecting another lens.An advantage of a fast wide-angle lens like the 16mm f/1.4 is your ability to shoot it at slower shutter speeds than a longer lens. Any slight movement when shooting handheld will in effect be masked by the width of the shot, and f/1.4 will let plenty of light in to help achieve a faster shutter speed.
