It is the sequel to The Snowman, and was created to mark the 30th anniversary of the original short film. Billy and his mum have moved into a new house just before Christmas, but Billy isn't very full of festive cheer, as his beloved old dog has passed away. Originally released in 1978, the book has achieved sales exceeding 5.5 million copies in 15 different languages. It ranks among the best-selling picture books of all time and remains in publication through Puffin. The story is bookended by two small tragedies. Although they are not dwelled upon, sensitive children may find that sad. The art is very faithful to the original though this book has far more words than the original (I would have liked to see fewer words, actually, and to let the art speak more). The film

The Snowman London musical is based on the celebrated illustrator Raymond Briggs CBE's picture book of the same name. The late John Coates produced the show. The classic British tale by Briggs was also adapted into an animated television special. The sequel entitled The Snowman and the Snowdog was dedicated in Coates' memory shortly following his unfortunate death from cancer. John Coates was best-known for co-founding the TVC London animation studio in 1957 together with George Dunning. The studio was behind the animation for The Beatles' Yellow Submarine special. In addition, it produced a television series entitled The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends, based on Beatrix Potter's beloved children's book. So when the snow falls and Billy starts to build a Snowman, he knows exactly what to do - he builds a Snowdog too! Then, later that night, something magical happens... and Billy embarks on the most wonderful snowy adventure.
