About this deal

Write an alternative ending for the story and imagine a new adventure that the boy and snowman could have together. This video shows an ‘animatic’ (which is an animated storyboard). Could you make an animatic based on your own story? The Snowman and the Snowdog is a 2012 British animated short film. It is the sequel to The Snowman, and was created to mark the 30th anniversary of the original short film. [1] The Snowman and The Snowdog is dedicated to John Coates (the film's producer, who died in September 2012) and features a new song called "Light the Night" by Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows. Huffingtonpost.co.uk. 10 December 2012 . Retrieved 27 December 2017. In this holiday picture book, a companion to Raymond Briggs’s The Snowman, a little boy builds a snow puppy next to his snowman—in hopes of getting a real puppy for Christmas. That night the Snowman comes to life and takes the boy and the Snowdog on an adventure to the world of Snow People. But the best is yet to come on Christmas morning, when a real, live puppy is waiting under the tree. In November 2016, a Christmas advert for British clothing company Barbour featured an older Billy and his dog reuniting with the Snowman and reminiscing about meeting Father Christmas. [14]One winter’s night, a snowman comes to life and a magical adventure begins…’. Use this idea as the starting point for your own story.

Billy and his mum have moved into a new house just before Christmas, but Billy isn't very full of festive cheer, as his beloved old dog has passed away. Originally released in 1978, the book has achieved sales exceeding 5.5 million copies in 15 different languages. It ranks among the best-selling picture books of all time and remains in publication through Puffin. The story is bookended by two small tragedies. Although they are not dwelled upon, sensitive children may find that sad. The art is very faithful to the original though this book has far more words than the original (I would have liked to see fewer words, actually, and to let the art speak more). In Fungus the Bogeyman I wanted to show the petty nastiness of life - slime and snot and spit and dandruff, all this awful stuff which is slightly funny because it detracts from human dignity and our pretensions.' Based on the original classic by Raymond Briggs, which has sold over 8.5 million copies and is available in fifteen languages, the story and illustrations are by the creators of the animated special by the same name."

The film

The Snowman London musical is based on the celebrated illustrator Raymond Briggs CBE's picture book of the same name. The late John Coates produced the show. The classic British tale by Briggs was also adapted into an animated television special. The sequel entitled The Snowman and the Snowdog was dedicated in Coates' memory shortly following his unfortunate death from cancer. John Coates was best-known for co-founding the TVC London animation studio in 1957 together with George Dunning. The studio was behind the animation for The Beatles' Yellow Submarine special. In addition, it produced a television series entitled The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends, based on Beatrix Potter's beloved children's book. So when the snow falls and Billy starts to build a Snowman, he knows exactly what to do - he builds a Snowdog too! Then, later that night, something magical happens... and Billy embarks on the most wonderful snowy adventure.
