About this deal

Like I said this topic is a sensitive one because people seem to be polarized as to which is the "Proper" solution. In the case of the 2016 Volvo S60 (pictured), a couple rear lights illuminate when you push the button, making the Volvo much easier to spot on the highway in the fog and other poor conditions. Volvo lights are one of the most common examples of rear fog lights. The rear fog lamp is a useful safety feature, but issues arise when drivers are unaware of the feature and switch on the fog lights in normal driving conditions. Sure, you might get a little extra forward road illumination, but you’re also unknowingly blinding drivers behind you and sometimes even making them think you’re braking. Therefore, these optional fog lights should not be used as normal driving lights. If your vehicle has rear fog lights, only switch them on when you are driving in fog, snow or other conditions that may prevent another driver from seeing your vehicle. Does Your Car Have Fog Lights in the Rear?

As per the Highway Code, fog lights should be switched off when the visibility is normal, or if it improves after a period of being foggy. Leaving the fog lights on can dazzles drivers ahead. Neither the front nor the rear fog lights can be left turned on when your vehicle is parked, or you may get fined for incorrect usage of your fog lights. Do All Cars Have Fog Lights? Fog lights are also not to be used when it is wet, as the extra brightness of fog lights can result in their reflection off a wet road surface, and can cause unnecessary dazzling reflections, which is not good. With the lights on or off, with main lights on full or dip, I do not get rear foglights to come on, and nor does the fog light gaurd light appear in the instrument panel at any time. Obviously fog lights aren't needed when it's dry, and there's not much point in turning them on when it's dark, either. The lamp housings don’t have the same kind of reflectors as main beam headlights, so they are unlikely to give you any extra light to help you see where you are going.

Daytime running lights and fog

Don’t forget your high-level brake light (this will be above your car’s rear windscreen), or your reversing lights. drive particularly slowly on bends where loss of control is more likely. Brake progressively on the straight before you reach a bend. Having slowed down, steer smoothly round the bend, avoiding sudden actions

You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves. Fog light symbols - to turn them on or off - can usually be found on a button on the dashboard, on a steering wheel stalk, or next to the dial you use to control your regular lights. While not common in the U.S., rear fog lights are mandatory in Europe. Typically, the rear fog light is a bright red light that is the same brightness as your brake lights. The job of the rear fog lamp is to reveal the position of your vehicle when driving in the fog, snow or other conditions that limit visibility. Your normal taillights are fairly dim, so they are not as likely be seen in foggy weather. Rear fog lights are often placed on the left side of the vehicle. This lets other drivers know approximately where the vehicle is located in a travel lane. Some newer models, however, have rear fog lights on both sides to further improve visibility. Like the fog lights on the front of your car help make you more visible to oncoming traffic, rear fog lights make you more visible to people behind you. There are several types of rear fog lights. Some take xenon or halogen headlight bulbs, but other rear fog lamps are made up of LED lights. LED lights are bright, long lasting and common on newer vehicles with rear lamps.Fog lights are present on the rear and front of vehicles. Since front fog lights are not legally required, many manufacturers do not provide front fog lights. If the test is unsuccessful, what else could it be other than a break in the wire somewhere? A dodgy earth? If so where would I look for that? Anyway here are a few links, but just don't let others lead you down the path, get on google and do some homework yourself. This then led me to believe that the switch on the indicator stalk was faulty or there was loose wiring connecting the switch to the circuitry on the rear of the unit housing the multifunction stalks and squib. However after removing the plastic housing I can see that the wires are intact and are still soldered to the circuit board.
