About this deal

Publisher Margaret Stead said: ‘We are thrilled to be publishing the memoir of our beloved Lynda La Plante. Lynda is without equal – a born storyteller, brimming with joie de vivre. Her sense of humour, integrity and style are unmatched, and we have all been inspired by her. For years, we at Bonnier Books UK have been privileged to hear Lynda’s incredible stories of a life lived to the full, so it is an absolute pleasure to be publishing her memoir and to share with her loyal readership the life and stories of such an incredible legend of film, television and publishing. Not only will readers be thrilled and amazed by her experiences and achievements, but future generations will learn so much. This memoir, like Lynda herself, is pure gold dust.’ As Warr digs into Middleton's past, Ridley calls pleading for help, now accused of a murder he insists he didn't commit. Then a character decides to celebrate their pregnancy by pouring glasses of wine for the happy expecting couple???

The book also appears to normalise excessive use of sleeping pills. One of the characters works at a hospital so if she does it then it must be fine. A compelling, clever plot with a brilliant cast of diverse characters. Utterly riveting' - RACHEL ABBOTT, million-selling author of ONLY THE INNOCENTOverall, this is another good addition to the series. There’s a lot of ground covered in both cases and they are resolved well. Her first TV series as a scriptwriter was the six part robbery series Widows, in 1983, in which the widows of four armed robbers carry out a heist planned by their deceased husbands.

Clean Cut: This is the third novel in the “Anna Travis” series and was released in the year 2007. James Langton is hunting some illegal immigrants who killed a young prostitute; he is ruthless in his search for them. One of the immigrants almost kills him, and Anna bears most of the frustrations he has and helps get his wounds healing. All the while, she puts her own career, not to mention life, on hold for him. And then we have the crime - or crimes. The dual thread of Middleton and Ridley. And apart from saying that both are well plotted and executed and kept me on the edge of my seat, I'm saying no more about either. Oh, apart from bot came to very satisfying conclusions. The sub-plot involving DCI Ridley is another great story and is testament to the writing skills of the author that she can include two stories of equal value in one book. This plot was very unexpected and kept me guessing throughout. As you would expect from bestselling author of Lynda La Plante this is a well written novel, the plot is meaty and solidly constructed, there’s clarity between the two cases and there’s never confusion. However, from time to time it does get a bit pedantic which halts the pace. For instance, I do get a bit fed up of the multiple references to wearing face masks, yes, got it, we’re still in the pandemic!!Zaffre, LaPlante’s fiction publisher, will publish the memoir of the legendary Queen of Crime Drama in autumn 2024. It read like the work of an amateur. There was no flow. It felt like an annoying coworker giving you a play by play of their indecisive internal monologue. He protests in a convincing way, and Anna might just be giving in to his attention. What if he is put in jail for the crime, but he is innocent? Will he be able to deal with the media attention from that?

A very poor rating because this book was an absolute chore to persevere through. This is the first book that I have read from this author as it was handed down to me and will be the last that I read from this author. Why was Martin Boon so adamant that David Caplan shouldn't install a new set of gates when they wouldn't encroach on his own property? One of the cases that she is working on, that involves the murder of a quiet woman (there seems to be no motive that they can find), turns out it is linked to James Langton’s. She is now the gang’s next target. When Does The Next Lynda La Plante book come out? Having requested a transfer to a station nearer her home, she's now wondering if any serious crimes are ever committed in Bromley. Especially since the first case she's assigned to involves nothing more dramatic than an altercation between neighbours over a disputed property boundary.
