Egg – Large free range organic are what I use. Any you have will work fine, just don’t use tiny or massive eggs as this could affect the end result. You may find one size Easter egg from a brand is gluten free, while a different size has a 'may contain' warning.

Flour – Plain flour (all purpose in the US) is what’s needed here. Don’t use self raising or gluten free types as they will act differently and give unexpected results.

Most plain chocolate eggs are free from gluten but sadly some have 'may contain' warnings which mean they are not coeliac-safe. Caster Sugar – My favourite is golden caster sugar as it adds a slight caramel flavour but regular white caster sugar is fine. This list is by no means exhaustive but contains most of the major supermarket and named brands I could find on the shelves. Important note: In 2022 the Mini Eggs Bar was gluten free, but now (2023) it has a 'may contain' warning and is NOT suitable for people with coeliac disease) It means that the Cadbury Large Creme Egg Easter Egg, as well as the Cadbury Crunchie Easter Egg, will both reduce from a weight of 258g to 233g this year. Add both sugars and beat on high speed in a stand mixer until light and smooth. At least 2-3 minutes!
