The KM2 has the same rotary type motor as the KMSS, so if a lighter, quieter clipper is a must, best to upgrade to the Wahl KM5, or to a clipper with a brushless motor, like the Wahl KM10 or Andis AGC instead. As you would expect from professional clippers, many Andis models are expensive – although they produce cheaper models such as the Pro-Animal Kit and Easy Clip Groom. Don’t let the price put you off though. Clippers should be considered an investment, and Andis models are highly durable so they last a long time. The Excel 5 model has the same top speeds as a 2 speed clipper, but adds 3 extra, lower speeds. The lower speeds reduce blade heat, noise and vibration for sensitive areas and anxious pets, and for use in areas where skin is thinner and vibration is more noticeable against the bone, such as legs, feet and face. The Excel 5 is also rated for full-body clipping for horses.

They’re also very quiet pair of clippers. Meaning that even nervous dogs shouldn’t get too rattled or alarmed.

MBG2 – The MBG2 range is similar to the RACD, but with a heavy-duty exterior for extra durability. MBG2 clippers are powered by a rotary motor and are suitable for medium coats. Models in this range also come with either an UltraEdge or CeramicEdge blade. The stand-out feature is the five adjustable speed settings. While this might be overkill for home grooming, many professional groomers love the extra control they have compared to a dual or single-speed clipper. The slower speeds are great for sensitive areas or to prevent the blade getting hot, while the higher speeds are perfect for a smoother finish and fast clipping. These Clippers have been around for over a decade – testament to a great design. There are reports of people having and using them for over 9 years. Andis clippers tend to have detachable blades rather than adjustable. While the company produces a few with adjustable blades, such as the Pulse Ion, Li and Whisper, these are exceptions rather than the rule. The Excel is part of the SMC range. This means it comes with a #10 CeramicEdge blade, which is more durable and cooler than UltraEdge alternatives. While the difference might not be huge, CeramicEdge blades are great for maintaining lower temperatures during long grooming sessions.
