About this deal

Identifying the contraflow bus lane sign was the most commonly failed road sign question on their practice tests during 2017. That’s an easy mark to throw away—and when you’re only allowed 7 mistakes in total on the theory test, every bit of knowledge helps. Thankfully, this sign is one of the more non-cryptic ones. Study it, and you’ll soon be able to recognise where a contraflow bus lane is in force. Instead, it suggests the footpath along Station Road, from the railway station to the Bridgewater Street/Brownlow Street junction, be widened and turned into a shared path. That’s all vehicles, including cycles that are being ridden. However, ‘pedal cycles being pushed by hand’ are explicitly exempt. Pedal cycles being scooted aren’t (see above). It is a temporary footpath along construction works — I’m not joking, I’ve got beeped at here and they pointed at the temporary footpath as if I should be using it, by a motorist who shouldn’t have even been using this bus lane… Longer-term, there is a proposal to improve the cycle route from the north-eastern residential area westwards towards the schools.

I just wanted opinions as to whether the cycle way needs to be marked with permitted or designed direction of travel for 2 way to be allowed. Double white lines where the line nearer to you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less. Where cycle lanes are introduced, the absolute minimum width is 1.5 metres, but 2 metres is preferred and essential at higher speeds (exceptions to this may be necessary through protected cycle by-passes or to pass stationary traffic at junctions). Anything less than 1.5 metres (minimum) deprives cyclists of road space and encourages traffic to pass too close. One-way systems put cyclists at a disadvantage, making their journeys longer and more stressful. Restoring two-way cycling on one-way streets can significantly improve the safety, convenience and attractiveness of cycling.A long-term scheme put forward in the report includes a trial removal of parking on Stafford Street to the west of the A529 roundabout, on High Street north of Shropshire Street and on Shropshire Street between High Street and Frogmore Road, to make space for a two-way segregated cycle path.

New lane marking dividing the two eastbound vehicle lanes in the section of Kensington High Street between Addison Road and St Mary Abbot’s Place. Driving requires focus and attention at all times. Remember, you may be driving dangerously or travelling too fast even if you don’t mean to. Climbing and crawler lanes. These are provided on some hills. Use this lane if you are driving a slow-moving vehicle or if there are vehicles behind you wishing to overtake. Be aware of the signs and road markings which indicate the lane is about to end. Rule 140 Sometimes it might be easier to continue along in a shared bus lane… this requires crossing three traffic lanes which can be hard to do when traffic is moving… and it might come as a surprise but cyclists, just like all other road users, are often in a hurry and don’t feel the need to wait around until conditions are ideal to cross..

To improve access to Gobowen, the report says a scheme “to extend the current cycle path along the existing railway corridor” was looked into, but “did not align with plans to run a shuttle rail service”. Cyclists gain most benefit when an existing street is converted to one-way for traffic management reasons and there's no reason to send riders round the houses. So called false one way streets - where there's a NO ENTRY at one end with an exception for cycles while the road remains two-way - are generally a good idea because they are introduced in an attempt to prevent rat-running etc and there's then no reason to penalise cyclists.

The “emergency” nature of the works, done as they were in response to the pandemic, also facilitated speedy development, she says. Another priority for the town is to introduce traffic calming measures to make the B5477 – along Shrewsbury Road, High Street and Ludlow Road – more active travel friendly.

Dublin city is undergoing a remarkable transformation. After years, decades even, of stalled progress on cycling and pedestrian schemes, they are suddenly springing up like weeds across the city. This was particularly important with the contra-flow lanes, previously very rarely used in the city. “I always believe with these measures that there will be a contagion effect once you start to roll out one or two. Now that we have one on Nassau Street, and we’ve an excellent one on Werburg Street, and coming up on Parnell Square, slowly but surely they will come. If you have to stop in a tunnel, leave at least a 5-metre gap between you and the vehicle in front. See our Space for Cycling guide for decision makers for more on the kind of infrastructure Cycling UK is calling on councils to introduce throughout the country. One big problem with contraflow lanes can be that they can be attractive to illegal parking if they are not robustly enforced. The topography of Bridgnorth is described as a “significant barrier for the use of active travel to get between the two parts of the town”. do not treat speed limits as a target. It is often not appropriate or safe to drive at the maximum speed limit The highest-ranked scheme in Market Drayton is the introduction of segregated cycle lanes from the centre of town along Maer Lane to the industrial estate. Where there is a solid white line dividing a contraflow cycle lane from other vehicles, you must not cross it. Straying across dashed white lines is allowed, but only when necessary, and when you are sure it is safe to do so. keep your headlights dipped when overtaking until you are level with the other vehicle and then change to main beam if necessary, unless this would dazzle oncoming road users
