About this deal

As hostilities deepen and war draws near, Wren is determined to rein in her wild magic and bind it to her will. With the lives of everyone she loves at stake, Wren must look within and decide if she is the monster she fears, or if there is light to be found in the darkest parts of herself. The long awaited sequel to S.L Cokeley’s This Blood that Binds Us is here! A cute college town romance with a badass FMC and a Golden retriever of a vampire MMC? Also found family vibes with the MMC’s protective brothers? Say less! Zach was number 1 for my blind ranking and honestly he could have stayed there if I had more from him but we did get a lot of him in book 2 PLUS a pov 😍 Philza walked the earth for another millennium before he got tired of doing it alone. There were whispers, of course, of other things like him out in the world, lingering in the shadows and preying on the weak, but he paid them little mind. They were young, feral, cursed for some crime, unlike him. He had been given a gift, a second chance. It had just taken a while to see it.

There's little room given to ever flesh out side characters, but even more so when it comes to the few women we're introduced to. Unsurprisingly, most of which are written in a negative light with little good things to be said about them. It's literally only Kimberly that we hear good things about because she's not like other girls. That being said, the pacing in this could have used work and especially room to breathe between scenes. Kimberly has no friends with the low effort put into actually making any, which bleeds into the rest of the book and leads to no anticipation for future Aaron/Kimberly scenes. This is because there are rarely any scenes where the two of them aren't together and it leads to fatigue. I am HEAVILY invested in Aaron and Kimberly. There is SO MUCH more than just them. But truthfully I am here FOR THEM. I do like everything else about the story!! But I love them the most. They are SWEET. Aaron is trying to hard to make the right choices to keep Kimberly safe, but the connection is so strong and that makes it so much harder. The way they talk about each other makes my heart MELT. This book dives a little deeper into their relationship and I loved every single second of it. Now that Kimberly’s life is undeniably intertwined with Aaron’s, the future remains unclear. And with the pressures of college life and The Legion hovering over the brothers’ every move, she wonders if she’s bitten off more than she can chew. She wants to remain a part of Aaron’s life, but at what cost? other than the things i talked about, i really did enjoy my time reading it! i literally finished it in two sittings if that says anything and i can definitely see it becoming someone’s comfort book. so i definitely recommend reading it!!♡ The beauty of friendship is that it transforms into a blood connection of its own, forming a chosen family.”

Customer reviews

The world building in this book is absolutely phenomenal. At first, I was slightly confused, but that has nothing to do with the way it is written. This book needed a lot of critical attention. Editing would have been an excellent beginning point to smooth out the very rough dialogue and details like slang and choppy structure. Without it… this book… ya know. (My irritation rose per every ellipsis in this book and dear God, so many. It wasn't like Cokeley had anything super heavy to say, unsure why she went so hard on them).

All in all, the ONLY complaint I have, is that this was an ARC, which means this book is not out yet, which means I have to wait that much longer to read the second book... because THAT ENDING has me sweating. I really enjoy the human/vampire couple, so I was sad to see she decided to turn in the end (even though I saw it coming early on in the story). Chris was such an unlikeable character there was no way Kim would ever go live with him. Kim also didn’t have much of a relationship with any of her classmates in this story. So it wasn’t that difficult for her to leave it all behind.Yes, Hannah, what?" He snapped and she startled, looking at him warily. She had been doing that more and more recently. The plot had sort of a mystery thing going on, which could have worked except the author was transparent the entire time. Anyone with any semblance of critical thinking skills could have figured out who our villain was, and why he was targeting them. However I am in distraught over the way this book has ended and I need that third book like I need air. I need answers, I need happiness, I need something. This comment contains spoilers, so please don't read if you don't like spoilers! This is my personal rating for "The Blood That Burns Us"! Aaron Calem has been trying to resist the blood lust raging through his new body, but the unfamiliar voice in his head won’t let him pass up an easy meal. When he’s left with a girl barely clinging to life, he must choose between loyalty to his brothers or his own morality.
