Therefore, while this may be a tedious read for some, it’s the most well-structured book for an avid owl enthusiast. The Enigma of the Owl is one of the few very detailed yet captivating books on owls. Mike Unwin wrote the book with unique photographs by David Tipling. Mike Unwin has studied the birds for years and describes the behavior, breeding patterns, diet, and cultural superstitions of various owl species.

It’s not very often that you read an urban fantasy these days without a ‘hunky/sexy/mysterious/dark’ male lead. That is just the nature of the beast since authors like Laurell K. Hamilton got big. Vampires and werewolves in urban settings are just synonymous with romance. Even those books not meant to be romance have some in them for the sake of being urban fantasy, especially those with female protagonists. There are some exceptions to that rule, and I’ve found that usually those have solid and interesting male protagonists. It’s nice then that Night Owls has an interesting male and female protagonists. the story started getting a bit better towards the end but it was so dramatic and soap-opera-like it was hard to continue but i did it!! Beatrix's character was downright irritating at certain points and i find her to be very immature and harsh to the people that she loves. For a person who is written off as logical and kind of unemotional, that was certainly not the case in the book and there were moments that I had to physically restraint myself from slapping my forehead.The Enigma of the Owl: An Illustrated Natural History byMike Unwin(Author),David Tipling(Photographer),Tony Angell(Foreword) I’m going to say it right now, The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is going to be on my top ten book list at the end of the year. Night Owls uses a dialogue technique from time to time that just didn’t work for me. At times, the characters will use sentence fragments where ellipses or commas seemed more appropriate. I ended up saying the dialogue in my head to see if I was missing some special emphasis but came to the conclusion that I wasn’t. There is also some slang that I don’t think is common day slang but also seemed odd to be newly created. Though perhaps I’m just not hip ;-). But Professor Espie thinks the tide is turning. I haven’t read too many art books, but I have enjoyed basically every one I have read. This particular book features two contrasting art styles: graffiti and dead body / anatomy drawing. I loved this because normally, art books take the typical painting or sketching. The Anatomical Shape of a Heart takes on a type of art that I didn’t know existed, making this book extremely unique and enjoyable.
