About this deal

Call me Helen. If things are as bad as I think they are, we may as well dispense with the formalities.” This book is loaded with over 750 diverse photographs that are used to help inform the reader about owls. Owls of the World: A Photographic Guide was written by the world’s most notable owl expert, Heimo Mikkola. Dr. Mikkola is associated with the University of Eastern Finland, Helsinki, and is known for having traveled across 128 different countries over the past 40 years, journaling on all 249 species of owls. This book summarizes his findings, with all the complex details penned down as simply as possible. Therefore, while this may be a tedious read for some, it’s the most well-structured book for an avid owl enthusiast. The Enigma of the Owl is one of the few very detailed yet captivating books on owls. Mike Unwin wrote the book with unique photographs by David Tipling. Mike Unwin has studied the birds for years and describes the behavior, breeding patterns, diet, and cultural superstitions of various owl species.

It’s not very often that you read an urban fantasy these days without a ‘hunky/sexy/mysterious/dark’ male lead. That is just the nature of the beast since authors like Laurell K. Hamilton got big. Vampires and werewolves in urban settings are just synonymous with romance. Even those books not meant to be romance have some in them for the sake of being urban fantasy, especially those with female protagonists. There are some exceptions to that rule, and I’ve found that usually those have solid and interesting male protagonists. It’s nice then that Night Owls has an interesting male and female protagonists. Only, she wasn’t feeling any relief. Elly looked out a window into the night. Somewhere out there, the Creeps were coming. A day, maybe two, and they’d find her here. They wouldn’t be kind to anyone aiding her.Shifting to flexible working hours as a result of the coronavirus pandemic has been a revelation for publicist Mayah Riaz. She has always known she preferred to work in the evening, but previously stopped herself from doing so because she worried about being perceived as immature or a workaholic. Elly doesn’t remember her parents. The only life she has ever known has involved being raised by a man known as Father Value. He taught her everything she knows about hunting Creeps, vicious cannibalistic shapeshifters. When Father Value is killed by the Creeps after stealing a book that holds the key to reviving Creeps’ ability to create more creatures like them, Elly takes the book and runs to the one person Father Value told her she could go to if something ever happened: a college professor named Clearwater. Did you know that nesting habits differ from owl species to species? Or that they rip right through the flesh of their prey while stabbing it to death with their sharp beak? Gail Gibbons taps into things we don’t know about an owl’s nocturnal lifestyle in this nonfiction picture book. The author covers their habitat, birth and development, the threats and predators they face, and their diet. More specifically, this book dives into how different species of owls differ from one another via detailed illustrations and appealing infographics for children.

the story started getting a bit better towards the end but it was so dramatic and soap-opera-like it was hard to continue but i did it!! Beatrix's character was downright irritating at certain points and i find her to be very immature and harsh to the people that she loves. For a person who is written off as logical and kind of unemotional, that was certainly not the case in the book and there were moments that I had to physically restraint myself from slapping my forehead. The Enigma of the Owl: An Illustrated Natural History byMike Unwin(Author),David Tipling(Photographer),Tony Angell(Foreword) I’m going to say it right now, The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is going to be on my top ten book list at the end of the year. Night Owls uses a dialogue technique from time to time that just didn’t work for me. At times, the characters will use sentence fragments where ellipses or commas seemed more appropriate. I ended up saying the dialogue in my head to see if I was missing some special emphasis but came to the conclusion that I wasn’t. There is also some slang that I don’t think is common day slang but also seemed odd to be newly created. Though perhaps I’m just not hip ;-). But Professor Espie thinks the tide is turning. When he first qualified as a doctor 40 years ago, exercise, smoking and diet weren’t taken seriously by the medical profession. “No self-respecting doctor would run clinics encouraging people to lose weight or get fit,” he says. “For many years, we’ve been advocating for sleep and it’s been falling on deaf ears. But nowadays there’s a lot being written about sleep in the media and it’s coming into the public consciousness. That’s hugely important.” Amazingly, The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is an art book! I haven’t read too many art books, but I have enjoyed basically every one I have read. This particular book features two contrasting art styles: graffiti and dead body / anatomy drawing. I loved this because normally, art books take the typical painting or sketching. The Anatomical Shape of a Heart takes on a type of art that I didn’t know existed, making this book extremely unique and enjoyable.
