About this deal

Non-autobiographical - This type of musical uses songs from a solo performer or group to create an original story. One example is Mamma Mia!, using ABBA's greatest hits to tell a story on a Greek island. Although a musician's discography can be used to create a narrative, the themes and plot may not be related to the song's original intentions. What is a musical revue? Gerald Bordman is considered by many to be the king of documenting musical theatre and so many of his books are wonderful, detailedreads on the genre. Invaluable, however, is American Musical Revue, a detailedchronicle of musical revues from The Passing Show to Sugar Babies. The musical revue is a special brand ofBroadway entertainment and itrequires its own separate study to understand how they are assembled. Bordman navigates this world with his usual precision andcolorful explanations. Since very little has been written on the subject of musical revues, this book (which is not easy to get a hold of)fill is an important gap in musical theatre history. This brilliant novel is about a daughter’s quest for the truth about her mother, legendary Irish actor Katherine O’Dell. But the emotional journey is anchored in theatrical detail. We learn of Katherine’s beginnings with Anew McMaster’s touring company, of her mesmerising stillness on stage, of her ability to milk a curtain call (“that clearing of her gaze as though realising the audience had been there – oh my goodness! – all along”). Enright also pins down the penalties of fame: Katherine becomes a national icon through a TV ad for butter and, at 51, winds up stark naked in an avant garde production.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott It’d be “Astonishing” if you haven’t heard this (very overdone, albeit beautiful) performance piece. Sutton Foster brought this song and Jo March to life in 2005. Although its tour and run on Broadway are over, the story still plays on in theaters across the nation. The brilliant musical adaptation is proof that Louisa May Alcott’s novel is still prevalent today. Music and Lyrics - Collectively, the music and lyrics form the score of a book musical. Most scenes in a musical will feature songs or musical accompaniment, with music developing a character's storyline or offering audiences a chance to find out more about a specific character. Occasionally, dialogue can be spoken over the top of musical accompaniment to form a song, especially in sung-through book musicals. What is a jukebox musical? If you love Hadestown you will love the banter between the Greek Gods in this sweeping love story set in World War II.Until the day she hears that laugh– his laugh–pouring out of the car radio. Going against Momma’s wishes, Maybelle starts listening to her radio DJ daddy’s new show, drinking in every word like a plant leaning toward the sun. When he announces he’ll be the judge of a singing contest in Nashville, she signs up. What better way to meet than to stand before him and sing with all her heart? BPPE: The New York Film Academy is approved to operate by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) “Approval” or “approval to operate” means that the institution is compliant with the minimum standards contained in the California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009 (as amended) and Division 7.5 of Title 5 of the California Code of Education. Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. EliotT.S. Eliot’s fantastic book turned into a sensational musical Cats, which won seven Tony Awards. A group of cats called the “Jellicles” must compete and decide which cat among them should be reborn. Although the musical is not a personal favorite of mine, its impact on Broadway is undebatable, and T.S. Eliot’s book is a pleasure to read. We all love our Broadway musical flops. I know that, for me, it has nothing to do with enjoying shows that died upon arrival, but rather, the mystery behind why they failed. Even the worst flop hasan interesting story behind its creation and Mandelbaum affectionately (but honestly) explores that history. The author conveys a balancedexplanation for dozens of Broadway musicals that failed. What makes the book even more special is that he finds the positives in each piece, realizing that a show is seldom just awful, it just doesn't work. If you loved the uplifting hit musical The Prom, make sure you have this one on your TBR! When word gets out that Emma plans to bring a girl as her date, it stirs a community-wide uproar that spirals out of control. Now, the PTA, led by Alyssa’s mother, is threatening to cancel the prom altogether when an unlikely group comes together and realize that love is always worth fighting for. Fatal Throne: The Wives of Henry VIII Tell All

From his fabulous birth and childhood to his quest for true love and infamous parade of ex-boyfriends, this musical is the story of Tiny Cooper’s life – and it’s the perfect melody of honesty, humor, and heart. T he Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson BurnettFrances Hodgson Burnett’s masterpiece is a musical, and it’s returning to Broadway! Musical theater fans need to revisit this childhood classic now more than ever. The book centers around Mary, a rich, bitter, lonely orphan sent to live with her uncle. She stumbles upon a garden one day while trying to occupy her time. In a typical school year, every kid has one or two things go wrong. But for Jordan, there’s A LOT going wrong ALL THE TIME.

Stagecoach International

Peter Pan by J.M. BarrieIt’s unavoidable; in the musical theater industry, you will come across Peter Pan. The Boy Who Never Grew Up continues to live on as generations and generations of families dive into his adventures with the Darlings. But that’s not the only reason to reread J.M. Barrie’s work; criticism of Barrie’s story is very well-deserved. His portrayal of the indigenous people in Neverland is offensive and ignorant. A reassessment of possibly removing these characters from future productions is a conversation that needs to be had. All Students must be collected on time after a session. Stagecoach is unable to supervise Students after a session and consistent late collection will result in additional charges. No one has captured the work of the Broadway musical orchestrator quite like Steven Suskin. Suskin, in fact, goes into such carefuldetail that he makes the job of the oft-underappreciated orchestrator a celebration of intelligence and artistry. The orchestrations of a Broadway show are as much a part of how the story is told as the music, book, direction and design. This book will help anyone who loves musical theatre to better understand just what it takes to bring a composer's music to life through carefulinstrumentation.

By enrolling your child at Stagecoach, you accept these terms and conditions ("Terms & Conditions") and sign your agreement to them as an ongoing agreement between you and Stagecoach ("Agreement"). Les Misérables by Victor HugoPerhaps Victor Hugo’s most well-known work today, Les Miserables follows the impoverished and pain-filled lives of several characters after the French Revolution. You can’t really be a musical theater fan without knowing the very famous (and very overdone) “On My Own” or “I Dreamed a Dream” performances from this musical. It’s only fair to do Victor Hugo justice by reading his original classic. All online activities are recorded and held for a period of four weeks for safeguarding and quality review purposes. Students are obliged to take care of their own belongings. Stagecoach can accept no liability for lost or damaged belongings. His teacher hates him. Like, really hates him. Like, is totally out to get him even when he’s trying to be good, and is willing to fail him on the simplest things, like show and tell.

American Musical Revue by Gerald Bordman

Deontae “Simp” Wright has big plans for his future. Plans that involve basketball, his best friend, Rollie, and making enough money to get his mom and four younger brothers out of the Cove, their low-income housing project.
