I teetered between 4 and 5 starts. It took me several chapters to get into the story. Each of the first chapters was a small tale of his past, or introducing characters, or what was going on now, but not really woven together. Once I could feel the story developing, I couldn't put the book down. The Line 4 Sheppard subway runs under Sheppard Avenue East from Yonge Street to Don Mills Road, with proposals to continue the line farther eastwards to the Scarborough Town Centre and westwards to Sheppard West station at Allen Road. I loved this novel and everything about it. Joey’s perceptions and how he tries to find his place while still honouring the values and courtesies his mother instilled in him are endearing. His struggles between love and hate for his family often land somewhere in the middle, and I struggled right along with him. Over all, I thought the boy was welcomed by family and neighbors in his new home more than I thought he would be, but he was too upset about his mother's recent death and his father's travels to be able to appreciate life with his grandparents.
