About this deal

If you have any version earlier than 6.2.5, please upgrade to the latest version from Latest Free Upgrade Version 5: When I try to edit a date it gets messed up RootsMagic 9 features the exact same user interface as its immediate predecessor. That means if you’ve taken the time to relearn RootsMagic 8’s overhauled navigation, you’ll have no problems adapting to version 9. MacFamilyTree 10’s user-friendly interface gets another overhaul in this latest release, and a direct comparison with the previous version reveals all changes manage to combine practical improvements with being more pleasing to the eye. That’s impressive, given the high bar set by the previous release. A facility to help you create and work with Named Listsof records (named lists are used for research purposes as To Do lists, as bookmark lists, as lists of key people, and so on

Family Historian 7 also features valuable source citation templates based on Elizabeth Shown Mill’s Evidence Explained. A second set of templates conforms to requirements at the University of Strathclyde. When you enter a record, you can immediately include a citation and source data to stay on top of your work. Family Historian v6 - 30 Day Trial Version

Family Historian’s media tools focus exclusively on linking photos and other supported documents – there are no image-editing tools in sight. Files can be linked to people, families, events, places and sources, and Family Historian was the first family history software program to frame people’s heads in photos. Other new features include tools for analyzing DNA data, matching with MyHeritage records, and support for GEDCOM 5.5.1. Core Features

Legacy is starting to look really dated, but it’s still reasonably logical, with its many tools laid out in a multi-tabbed ribbon across the top of the screen. There’s also a handy customisable My Toolbar option that allows you to put the most frequently accessed tools within easy reach. The main screen gives you five ways to view the currently selected person, including a Timeline view that can help you spot gaps in your research. However, adding or editing information involves opening one or more pop-up windows, some of which are quite cluttered and confusing to navigate (editing individuals is a case in point). More YouTube videos, covering different versions of Family Historian, can be found in this YouTube playlist. User Group Videos Family Historian 7 also includes a transcription feature using word processing tools. Using templates for source types across regions, you can create word-for-word transcripts of documents. Notes The Places tool remains unchanged in RootsMagic 9, but it still neatly consolidates all your locations and maps in one place. Viewing, managing, and editing places is easy thanks to the fact the Edit Place dialog sits within the main interface as opposed to requiring a separate pop-up window, plus you can now edit place links to people and events from here too. Using the How Related tool, you can view how individuals are linked using diagrams and a variety of facts. MediaEmbedded hash tags(also known as notes-within-notes). Hash tags are designed to be hidden when the note is displayed in reports (see example right in yellow). Out of all the platforms we tested, Family Historian 7 was the easiest to get to grips with. Although its interface might seem a little dated, its simple layout makes it easy to navigate around. I want to be able to set the ‘Living’ flag on everyone who is still alive. What is the best way to do this? FTM’s Publish tool contains a wide range of charting and reporting options, along with tools for writing and publishing your own books. They’re easy to use, but also extremely customisable, and you’re able to make changes and see their effects in real time instead of having to regenerate the chart or report. One highlight is Smart Stories, which encourages you to write your own reports while making it easy to insert elements of a person’s life from your research into the text, which you’re then free to edit or rewrite.

In many contexts within the program there may be a Help button. Pressing this button takes you to Help that is relevant to the current context. If there is no Help button, pressing the F1 key will usually take you to help that is relevant to the current context. Other ResourcesSort dates (briefly mentioned in relation to TMG Import). Sort dates are an optional additional tool for specifying how facts should be sorted

Recording associates of individuals and sources of data is also important to genealogists. Using the Witnesses feature, you are able to add other persons to a fact or event. You can assign them roles in this event, and, in doing so, make cluster and collateral research easier. Timelines Version 10 focuses its attention on improvements to the Virtual Globe view, delivering snappier performance, a cleaner look and new timeline control to filter what events are shown within a specified date range.Version 7 now supports GEDCOM 5.5.1. GEDCOM is the global standard for shared genealogy data. 5.5.1 was announced in November 2019.
