Slide the housing of the upright vacuum cleaner and unscrew the white hood of the vacuum cleaner with a Torx T8. Then unclip it on the sides (with a flat screwdriver) Having said that, for most upholstery, the V7 Trigger is powerful enough to do the job in regular mode with little effort. And the 30-minute battery life is more than sufficient, too, principally because it only cleans when you squeeze the trigger. When you release your finger from the trigger, the vacuum switches off so you’re not draining the battery when you move from one place to another. During our testing, the V7 Trigger provided excellent cleaning performance. The motorised tool was great for getting fluff and hair out of carpets, while the strong suction meant it handled both small particles and larger debris on hard floors. We also found it to be lightweight and easy to use around the home.

We think the Dyson V7 Trigger is an excellent handheld vacuum. The 30-minute run-time is long enough for almost any small cleaning job, plus we found it provides great cleaning performance on almost any surface. The screen on the vacuum unit also has new features and while it still helps you choose your cleaning mode and shows you how long your battery has left, it also reports on how well the V15 is cleaning your home and what kind of dust and dirt particles it’s collecting.

It’s capable of removing hair that’s been ground into rugs or carpet fibres, which is a task most handhelds we test struggle with. The V7 Trigger includes a washable filter, which you’ll need to keep clean to maintain the vacuum’s suction power. There is no HEPA filter included with the vacuum, which is a shame considering we think many people will be using this vacuum for cleaning pet dander and other allergens. For a handheld vac, you won't get much better in terms of suction. The Trigger sports the same Dyson V7 digital motor as the larger model, so it has incredible power for such a small unit. We found the Dyson V7 Trigger to be a useful tool for cleaning cars, due to the cordless design and 30-minute battery life. During our tests, the mini motorised tool was also effective at removing crumbs, hair and other loose debris from car seats and footwells. The standard V8 is ideal if you have a relatively small living space that’s mostly carpeted. If you have mostly hard floors, it’s worth seeking out the V8 Absolute, which comes with an additional fluffy roller.

A bonus is that the Dyson V7 Trigger’s battery can be replaced. It’s not swappable to increase the vacuum’s run-time though, as changing the battery involves several screws.
The V7 motor spins at up to 110,000rpm to create powerful suction – a maximum of 100AW according to Dyson. This is only MAX mode, though, which you can use for only up to six minutes. It standard mode you get 30 minutes of cleaning at 21AW. Dyson V7 Trigger review: Performance and usability Weight isn’t everything when it comes to ease of use though. We’ve tested several handheld vacuums that are technically lightweight but feel bulky or heavy to hold, often due to poor design choices. Fortunately, we didn’t feel this was the case when testing the V7 Trigger, as it always feels balanced and easy to manoeuvre around the home. Be in no doubt: this pint-sized vacuum isn’t quite powerful enough to take on full-sized devices. And if you’re feeling a bit flush, the Dyson Cyclone V10 is a pretty good all-rounder, too. Another Dyson innovation is ‘the Ball’. This, as the name suggests, is a large ball upon which the vacuum cleaner pivots. Thanks to this single pivot, upright Dyson cleaners are easier to manoeuvre around the house in comparison to traditional wheel-based vacuums.There’s an increase in the suction, naturally, with this new vacuum’s stated suction power upgraded to 240 air watts, compared with 185 air watts in the equivalent V11. However, the headline innovations in this model are located in its motorised heads. It also comes with extensions aplenty. As well as the main vacuum unit, the extension pole and extra-large cleaning head (with hair removal veins to keep it clean), the Dyson Outsize comes with a smaller soft head for hard floors and a mini-motorised tool for cleaning stairs and other inconvenient places. You’ll also get a variety of brushes, adaptors and other extensions.
