About this deal

Compressor dehumidifiers work in much the same way as a fridge or freezer. They draw in air and cool it, condensing any moisture as it passes across a refrigerated coil. The water then drips off into a water tank below, while the air is reheated and released into the room. Compressor dehumidifiers can be noisy and may use more energy than other types, although new compressor technology and refrigerants are bringing improvements on both counts. They’re most efficient at warmer temperatures of 20°C and above, and your best bet if you need to remove lots of moisture from a larger space. Smart Dehumidification Technology- automatically control room humidity in a comfortable range (45%-55% according to room temperature) which inhibits bacteria growth. Auto-humidistat: This can sense the moisture in the air and turn off automatically once the desired level is reached.

Other types include desiccant dehumidifiers, which will use a water-absorbing material, and thermoelectric dehumidifiers, which operate with charged plates. Generally speaking, neither of these latter two types are as effective as condenser models, which is why we only recommend this type in our list. This flaw isn't unique to Frigidaire, but it is something to prepare for if you're purchasing this model for the convenience of having a pump. We'll keep an eye out to see if the FFAP5033W1 suffers from the same problem. Of the units we tested, at 38°F, it had the lowest operating temperature. The tolerance for cold makes the Hisense a great choice as a basement dehumidifier. We placed data loggers to record humidity and temperature around the room. Once we’d hit our peak humidity target, we switched on the test dehumidifier. Auto Restart - if the unit turns off unexpectedly due to the power being cut, it will restart with the previous function setting automatically when the power resumes. All dehumidifiers have filters to keep dust off the heat exchangers. The Frigidaire has the sturdiest of those tested. In other cases it felt like the filters or clips that held them in place would break sooner or later.

It’s bad for you because bugs and mould love high humidity levels. Dust mites and mould spores thrive and can trigger allergies, skin irritation and respiratory problems such as asthma. Moods and general wellness can also be affected. The Frigidaire Gallery’s reservoir cover allows for smooth water pouring without spills. A handy level indicator clearly shows how full the reservoir is. An Energy Star dehumidifier running 24/7 could use about 300 kWh per month, this compares to 30 to 50 kWh per month for a refrigerator. The damp reservoir can also be a home for mold or bacteria. A gentle wash with dish detergent will take care of that.

What causes high humidity? And should it concern me?
