About this deal

Blue light does affect the body’s circadian rhythm, our natural wake and sleep cycle. During the day, blue light wakes us up and stimulates us. But too much blue light exposure late at night from your phone, tablet or computer can make it harder to get to sleep. So far there’s no evidence that blue light from devices is a culprit. Computer users tend to blink five times less than usual, which could result in dry eyes. And focusing on anything for long periods without a break is a recipe for tired eyes.

Most notably, the screens of computers, tablets, smartphones and other digital devices produce blue light.

elevating our body temperature and heart rate. During the day, blue light can improve performance and attention, tuning our circadian rhythms and setting us up for a better night’s sleep after the sun sets. Some studies suggest a link between exposure to light at night, such as working the night shift, to diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. That's not proof that nighttime light exposure causes these conditions; nor is it clear why it could be bad for us. US. Department of energy. (2013). The successful partnership between the BBC and Northern Ireland Screen continues to support the screen industry in Northern Ireland and help ensure that content filmed and set in Northern Ireland is brought to audiences across the UK and internationally. On the other hand, virtually all visible blue light passes through the cornea and lens and reaches the retina. 4. Blue light contributes to visual discomfort. The good news is that the risks of nighttime blue light exposure can be reduced through relatively simple methods. While you’re using a device that emits blue light, stop every 20 minutes to focus on objects that are around 20 feet away. Study those objects for 20 seconds before you return to your up-close viewing. Keep your eyes moistThe amount of HEV blue light these devices emit is only a fraction of that in sunlight. But the amount of time people spend using these devices and the proximity of these screens to the user’s face means that this may have an oversized impact. It’s important to remember, though, that the amount of blue light emitted can differ depending on the manufacturer, device and brightness setting. Also, even indoors, most blue light is from the sun. 2. HEV blue light rays make the sky look blue. Each color in the visible light spectrum has a different wavelength and energy level. Blue light has shorter wavelengths and higher energy than other colors. Some research shows a link between eye damage and short-wave blue light with wavelengths between 415 and 455 nanometers. Most of the light from the LEDs used in smartphones, TVs, and tablets has wavelengths between 400 and 490 nanometers. Sunlight is the main source of blue light, and being outdoors during daylight is where we get most of our exposure to it. But there are many other sources of blue light — including LED lighting and flat-panel screens. Without getting into complicated physics, there's an inverse relationship between the wavelength of a light ray and the amount of energy it contains. Light rays that have short wavelengths have more energy and those with longer wavelengths contain less energy.
