About this deal

Her first real dabble in the world of creating manga was in 1985 when she participated in the publication of a dōjinshi. She remained active in the dōjinshi world until her debut in 1993 with the short single "Fuyu ga Owarou Toshiteita" (Winter Was Ending) that ran in Shōgakukan's Puchi Comic magazine. The movie might feel a bit abrupt and truncated vis-a-vis the manga but it still a complete cohesive piece and I found the choice of certain scenes and the way the whole thing was directed gave this movie a very different style, tone and story from its original work, and I personally appreciated its almost indie-like feel. it touched the matter of how some gay men are so used of treating men as a one night stand, or meeting other people only for sex, than is not easy to become open again or have the confidence that their partner loves them enough to not be abandoned again for another man or because they could get married. The reality is probably much more harsh, than what is showed here. I felt for Imagase everytime that he showed sorrow because be knew that is falling harder with every moment he spent more with Kyoushi, and even through he tried to prepare his heart, he knew he can do nothing than to expect the hurt that will be coming. No touching at all aka Doushitemo Furetakunai - this is one of the oldest made, the story can be a bit cliche, but is still worth watching in my opinion, as it can give people a nostalgic feeling. Is at realistic as it could be considering the story.

Kyouichi is a married man who has been cheating on his wife with a mistress. One day, he is approached by his university friend Imagase, who presents incriminating evidence of his adultery. Imagase works as a private detective, recently hired by Kyouichi's wife to investigate his infidelity. In exchange for keeping the affair a secret, Kyouichi reluctantly agrees to share a passionate kiss with Imagase. Note: Bi folks, be aware that you are completely erased as an option, as in it’s implied that if you enjoy/have s*x with the same gender, then you are automatically no longer interested in another gender and are just gay. A lot of the talk is coming from a place of internalized homophobia/biphobia, but it may still be upsetting. Some users here have been posting interesting comments about this complex and layered show and I thought it would be such a shame to lose them if they eventually get buried under various comments so I'm consolidating them under this thread. That this is only a HFN is very much a Setona Mizushiro feature, I think. She doesn't ignore reality - and these are two men in Japan being homosexual. There'll always be problems.

This brings us to the final shot of the movie. In this beautifully composed scene, Kyouichi sits alone in his apartment. There's no dialogue, no voiceover narration, and no explicit message about deciphering the ending. However, you will notice three important symbolic details in the movie ending: The breakup scene between Kyouichi and Imagase was a powerful moment. Driven by jealousy, Imagase grows paranoid about Kyouichi's relationship with Tamaki even though nothing is going on between them. In the heat of the moment, Imagase may have said some things he regretted. He definitely expected Kyouichi to put up more of a fight to save their relationship, but Kyouichi just called it quits instead. Japanese director Isao Yukisada wants the audience to understand that the love story in his new film “The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese” is about human connections between two people who happen to be men — defining the film as a queer or LGBTQ drama is useless in his eyes. The title of the manga series and our film refers to an old Japanese saying: ‘a cornered mouse bites’ — but the twist here is that the cornered mouse dreams of cheese,” said Yukisada. “The dream in the title could refer to each of the two main characters, or to a time when we as human beings meet other people and spend an unforgettable time together.”

From the moment he met Tamaki, Imagase pegged this woman as a threat to Kyouichi's affections. He can't measure up against someone like her, whose personality is sweet, docile, and relentlessly chipper, almost everything that Imagase is not. He doesn't think Kyouichi would ever choose him over a heterosexual marriage with this perfectly tailored wife. In my perspective, this movie is the best made bl/lgbt japanese movie made until now. It has almost everything that the others movies didn't dare to show or exagerate about the lifestyle of gay people. It shows how much the lifestyle and past experiences as a gay man impacted Imagase , and show us how much he struggles between the part of him that is trying to trust Kyouchi when he finally gives in to him, or when it appears to him that he wants to get serious with him and the part that wants to go away, because even if Kyouchi is saying he wants them to be serious this time and even move together if i heard right, he just told him before that he wanted to get married to his girlfriend, it's normally that he freaked out, and left for a while. Even through the movie didn't end with them being reunited like in the manga, even in the manga Imagase left, he didn't trust that Kyoichi love for him is strong enough to break up with his girlfriend. Even when i read the manga, Imagase has a lot of things to work on and i tought that Kyoichi had'it too easily. This ending is more realistic and it ended with the strong resolution of Kyoichi that the next time when Imagase will return to him, he will make sure that he will not hurt Imagase like before, and will making up for what he did. Both the characters where so messed up in their own way in the manga, and the movie despicted very well the insecure and low confidence that Imagase has when it comes to his relationship with Kyouichi. Later, while on an assignment, Imagase spots Tamaki going to a gynecologist and notices that she is being stalked by his target, but he is too late in stopping him, resulting in Tamaki falling down a flight of stairs. At the hospital, Kyouichi reunites with Imagase, and Imagase begs him to let him be in his life, to which he rejects. Before Imagase leaves, Kyouichi confesses about his frustrations with him and admits their relationship has been dysfunctional. The two make up, and Kyouichi ends his relationship with Tamaki, to which he is met with scorn from their co-worker. After he turns to Imagase, the two decide to live together again, uncertain about what their future may bring. Hazra, Adriana (September 14, 2020). "Shin-chan Debuts at #1, The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese Debuts at #5". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on June 27, 2021 . Retrieved April 16, 2021. Kyouichi is promoted to section manager at his job, and he learns that his assistant, Tamaki Okamura, is interested in him. He later learns that Tamaki is the daughter of his superior, Yanagida, and is offered to be set up in a relationship with her. As Kyouichi and Tamaki become more deeply acquainted, especially after Yanagida's death, Imagase becomes increasingly insecure and decides to end the relationship himself. After Imagase moves out of Kyouichi's apartment, Kyouichi and Tamaki begin dating.

I need to emphasize how excited I was to watch The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese. This might be one of my most anticipated BL movies in the past few years. My review will be super biased because I LOVE the manga and have a HUGE crush on one of the actors. When I found out Ryo Narita was cast in this movie adaptation, I shed a tear of happiness. Is this what having your dreams come true feels like? 😭 Story-wise the manga has given a new meaning for its league. It’s simple at first but it definitely changes its pace towards the following chapters. It focuses on Kyouichi’s unfaithful, simple-minded, dense and confusing train of thought. However, it also talks about some past events during their college days and Imagase’s view about Kyouichi. When looking from Imagase’s stand, it makes the story more depressing and bitter. The hardest part of his unrequited love is he is inlove with someone who is straight and indecisive. The only way to show him this kind of love is by forcing on to Kyouichi. The volume has numerous of love making and dialogues along with it. Still has the yaoi feel, only better. I already knew Ootomo was serious about Imagase after their first sex but here he takes his commitment and his resolute determination up another level:- the drifting samurai who used to be easily seduced by women is now a man who has made up his mind that he will have no one else but his one life's only exception. Even if the road ahead would be difficult and hard because he does not belong to Imagase's gay world, Ootomo is determined to do all in his power to make it work and build a bridge to cross both worlds. His silent waiting is a testament to the strength of his determination and resolution. I would NOT recommend this if you: like the seme/uke structure, are expecting a ton of full-on smut immediately, like indisputably happy relationships/endings
