As you can probably guess, the primary difference between this lower-tier sneaker option from the New Republic and the Common Projects luxury-tier sneakers is in the materials. The Kurt sneakers are not hand-made in Italy from calfskin leather and don't have a margom outsole. Instead, you're getting a fairly low-quality (albeit genuine) leather with a rubber outsole.

Why? The goal is to have fewer, but better (meaning higher quality) clothing and accessories that fit well and work together. I actually owned a pair of Commons and sold them after 2 days (I have a VERY high arch/instep leading to a wide footbed) due to comfort. I also know other shoes are a MUCH better options, GREATS Royal being one of the best. However, I am quite fortunate to be in a position in life that I can afford to buy a shoe like this to "test" and I also have a network of people that I can give these to if they hold up. Ten years ago, a clean, minimalist white sneaker for men was hard to come by. The only pair available was the CP Achilles Lows. Nowadays, you have a plethora of options, all great quality, and are virtually indistinguishable from one another. Tons of people have complimented the shoes. It's about as many as the CP's. Just no sneaker freaks, which I am ok with. Again, I wanted to do this to add to the community and provide people that were looking at these for a "cheap" alternative some insight before buying. These will work just fine for those of you on a strict budget, whether out of necessity or simply due to preference. Like Stan Smiths, I recommend the cleanest and whitest look possible. No highlighting the flagship jazz stripe doodle, which is commensurate with the Vans brand (unless you really want to).

One thing remains true, no matter which pair you choose: If you take care of your shoes—have a solid rotation so you’re not wearing them every day, put shoe trees in them immediately after wearing, brush and clean them regularly—they’ll last a very long time. Looking to build a minimalist wardrobe? Quality control issues: As with any brand, there is a risk of quality control issues. I've been looking to buy a pair of white leather sneakers (similar to Common Projects, but not that expensive).The Sonomas feature a flat-welt construction, which is a way to describe how the sole is connected to the upper portion of the shoe. The welt is a flat strip of leather sewn around the perimeter of the upper and onto the insole. If that’s the case, then I agree that these are a great pair of pants for transitional weather. The branding on these is a bit confusing, though.
