Shalaxi Helbane, otherwise known as The Monarch of the Hunt, is Slaanesh’s greatest weapon in their feud with the chaos god Khorne. They’re a daemon with a big spear, that excels at slaying other daemons, especially Bloodthirsters, and are rivals with the top Bloodthirster in town, Skarbrand. The story itself is totally gripping. I was hooked from the beginning and raced through the novel in two days, desperate to find out what was going to happen. The atmosphere is dark, forbidding, claustrophobic, it reveals a side of my home town that is unfamiliar to me, which is always exciting, and I was riveted by trying to piece together my knowledge of Doncaster with the locations in the book, but I am sure anyone who isn’t familiar with the locale will be equally drawn in by the tension and darkness of the setting, although it may not do much for the appeal of Doncaster to tourists! (It’s a great place, do visit us, we aren’t all crazy!)

Soon she is amidst a fierce battle between a conservation project to rewild the lynx in the woods and the local farmers. Emily finds a baby lynx she calls Lotta and hides it in an outbuilding, afraid it will be killed by the illegal hunter who killed its mother. The pain of her own mother's death is raw and this binds Emily and the baby lynx together. She loves Lotta with all her heart, like a mother loves a child and is fiercely protective of her. Keeper of Secrets by Lynda Stacey is a fast-paced, gritty mystery which I enjoyed. A lot of intrigue, plenty of twists and dark secrets along the way, made Keeper of Secrets very readable. Recommended. The Daemon's head, sometimes Human, sometimes bestial, is ringed with a nest of curved horns that glisten with an oily sheen. Its huge, jewelled eyes contain the secrets of pleasure and pain, hidden lusts and terrifying impulses. A serpent's tongue writhes from between its razored teeth, tasting the air and the perverse energy contained within. [2a] He was rewarded with the gift of daemonhood. Along with the infamous Daemon Prince Doombreed, N'Kari confronted the Emperor of Mankind when he teleported aboard the Warmaster Horus' Battle Barge Vengeful Spirit during the Battle of Terra that brought the Horus Heresy to a close. From that bygone age, N'Kari continued to serve the Lord of Pleasure into the present era of the galaxy's history.

When a Keeper of Secrets appears, all hope is lost. Its presence wreaks havoc with the minds of those mortals around it, interfering with their ability to concentrate, distracting them with its unnatural charisma. The Base One dances through battle, sliding past regiment and would-be hero alike, exulting with each slash of its pincers, its laughter mingling with the screams of the dying. At an unknown date in the 41st Millennium, N'Kari and the Prophet of Jostero forged an alliance, and he drew a portion of the Realm of Chaos into the mortal universe, pulling Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights Kaldor Draigo through along with it. Draigo was thus briefly reunited with his Chapter once more, for a brotherhood of the Grey Knights had arrived on Jostero to combat N'Kari's threat.
