About this deal

The best thing about making DIY hair scrunchies is that it uses the smallest scrap of fabric. Rummage around your fabric scraps bin (yes, I know you have one that is overflowing) for long-shaped scraps. Scrunchies make great gifts, so start making them in batches using this easy tutorial and scrunchie template! Cut a piece of fabric 18" by 5" (46 x 13cm). Cut a piece of ⅜" (1cm) wide elastic - max 6" (15cm) long (not pictured) Once you have pulled out some of the inner layer, straighten in out and align the edges again, and continue sewing down the raw edge.

If you prefer, you can handstitch the ends together to avoid having a flat seam. Best fabric for scrunchies If you are using a cotton fabric then give it a good press. For Lycra fabrics, just try and flatten it out a little with your fingers. The seam should be on one side of the tube so it is not easily visible. Step 4: Press the DIY Scrunchie Step 5 - Thread the ElasticIf you have cast on 80 stitches, you can choose any stitch pattern that is a repetition of 2, 4 or 8 stitches! If not, you can easily adapt the number of stitches to the pattern of your choice.

DIY hair scrunchies can be made with a wide variety of fabric. Basic 100% woven cotton is my favorite because it is lightweight and comes in fun prints. This type of fabric is also called quilting cotton and is available at all fabric stores. Also read about my favorite online shops in this post! Fold the scrunchie piece in half lengthwise. Pin along the long edge to hold it in place for sewing. Sew together with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Sew the hole closed with a simple top stitch using matching thread. (I used white thread so you could see it better in the picture.) Work neatly so your glue does not show on the right side of the scrunchie, and test the glue on your fabric before you start. When joining the elastic ends in step 6, use a knot, as the glue won't be strong enough to hold the elastic. How to Make a Scrunchie FAQs How to Wear a Scrunchie

If you want an invisible finish for your scrunchie then use a ladder stitch in the final step instead of your sewing machine. At this point, the raw edge will be inserted into the tube and the seam can be hand-stitched around the outside in a circle. How Long Does it Take to Sew a Scrunchie? Now that we have cast on 80 stitches (or the amount you might need), it is time to actually knit the scrunchie ! Specialty fabrics such a silk, velvet and lace can also be used for extra fun and fancy scrunchies! My kids said that I am the culprit. Did they think I ate them! I suppose the floor did ‘eat’ them; and from the floor to the wastebaskets is a short trip, when my hubby notices them – he, who does not realize the importance of those small fabric bands named scrunchies. I have solved the case of the missing scrunchie. But I still need them. So it is DIY scrunchie time. If you used Lycra fabric for your DIY scrunchie and don't have a pressed edge then just put one end into the other. Overlap it by ½" (12mm) so the inside raw edge is hidden.
