About this deal

You would then use 2 channels on your Mixer, one pan left, one pan right, this would be the simplest. Did you do a double blind test on the cables with everything level matched so as to rule out inconsistences and placebo effect, if not then your claims are just opinions and not facts, so your assertion that a child could hear a difference is totally nonsensical. You won't need any special cables to run from the rca output to the balanced input. Some might have the ground and "Cold" pins connected together, but this was really only a requirement with transformer balanced inputs, which this amplifier doesn't have. If the amplifier has Hot and Cold reversed, your amplifier will operate out of phase, which cannot be heard, unless you have another amplifier in the system which is not phase reversed. The human ear cannot determine absolute phase, only the effects of 2 sources which are phase reversed in relation to each other - ie: speakers wired out of phase to each other, causing loss of bass and strange phasing effects at higher frequencies. This cable adopts the same approach as the other options on this list, namely that the number two connector I the live terminal of the RCA and the RCA ground goes to terminals one and three. XLR cables are typically used in professional settings for audio, video, and stage lighting equipment. They commonly have three pins, but can have up to 10 in some cases, and have been around in one guise or another since the 1950s. The most common three-pin variant of XLR cables are used in almost all professional-grade microphones and have been common in some commercial speaker and subwoofer designs in the past. They also see use in some PA systems.

A true XLR cable with XLR connectors on both ends should offer a clean, and secure connection with little external noise or crosstalk. They can do this over longer distances too, up to 50ft in some cases, thanks to the internal protections. Where an RCA cable may begin to show the effects of signal noise or crosstalk over a relatively short distance, that’s not the case with XLR. BillActually I took 4 tables and smoked a tree so as to make sure I was self opinionated and knew everything and would be guided by some myth blind testing an inconsistent placebo effect, but thanks all the same I know what happiness is, as do all those millions that have walked the cable path. cheers mate. 🙏 Reply There are, of course, those who believe that sonic differences between balanced and unbalanced interconnects are a myth, and they both result in the same amount of interference. Others say that XLR will certainly make the signal ‘stronger’, but not necessarily better. Such has to ultimately be left up to interpretation, but the next time you’re at a studio or a live music event, see which connectors the musicians and techs use, and most likely it’ll be XLRs. With that in mind, when being used to handle professional audio, RCA cables are most commonly used to deliver only music, leaving XLR cables to handle vocals and instrument transmission. RCA cables are known to generate a buzzing sound through attached speakers when plugging them in due to the fact that the inner signal connection happens before the ground.Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 26th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) Fuller and Natural Sound: Your system should be capable of producing a more immersive and realistic performance with a fuller and more natural sound. Search around on the internet there are lots of tutorials about DI boxes, their use, and explanations.

In a hi-fi system though, where perhaps the longest interconnect is 1 metre and the signal is up to 4 volts, then the need for XLR connections is more questionable.

Chord Clearway Analogue Audio Cable - XLR - RCA

The Clearway is really like a souped-up C-Line, with heavier-gauge, oxygen-free copper conductors, upgraded insulation and silver plated VEE 3 RCA plugs. And we could use the same line to describe its performance." (Read More) The three-pin design offers a balanced connection, thanks to its combination of positive and negative internal wiring, alongside a ground wire. Although they can be used for high-voltage power delivery, they are primarily used for digital audio transmission and do not handle video signals. RCA cables are unbalanced, so do not offer the same level of audio integrity protection as XLR cables, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have their advantages and don’t have their uses. A good starting point is to consider getting in touch with the manufacturer of your stereo amplifier and asking if they recommend a particular brand or model of interconnect. After all, engineers will have spent hours experimenting during the development process and you might be told some valuable nuggets of information which might make your job of finding something suitable more simple.

I'm assuming that the stereo source will be positioned near the mixer. If that's not the case then Edwin van Mierlo's recommendation of using an active device with a balanced output is applicable. A balanced connection, due to it's greater noise immunity and stronger signal in the receiving end, is highly advisable for any distance greater than 10 meters.

There is an important point here though. XLR connections often carry a higher voltage signal then RCA connections, up to 4 volts against typically the 2 volts on an RCA connection. So if for instance you were connecting a CD player with XLR connection to an amplifier with RCA connection, you may well find that the extra signal strength will overdrive the RCA input on the amplifier. The problem being that this will give you very little control over the volume and can lead to harsh and fatiguing sound. Simple really a child could tell you the difference.A child will also believe anything you tell them. RCA cables are also a single cable solution whether you’re transmitting mono or stereo sound. If you wanted to transmit a stereo signal with XLR, you’d need two cables, but RCA cables can manage that with a single cable. This can be a useful feature if you want to minimize the amount of cabling you’re using. That's not the case with normal performance and PA devices, where the XLR connectors are used to carry a single channel balanced signal. Depending on your Mixer you can use a stereo channel if it has one, or group 2 mono channels into a stereo group. The routing after that is all dependent on how you setup your channels/mixer/features.
