About this deal

The only problem is finding an empty large bottle of Hibiki 17 laying around to complete the project. I think it's time to try and make a deal with the local jazz bar owner. Since then, the brand has gone from strength to strength, incorporating delicate Japanese charm and masterful blending into cask after cask. Nowadays, Hibiki’s symbolic of what ultra-premium Japanese whisky is really capable of. Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates. When I take a sip it goes bitter, feels like oak, peppers with some citrus notes. It feels like there should be more fruit there, but the bitterness is overshadowing it.

The taste becomes more well rounded and balanced; now with butter and a touch of aniseed. Bitterness is reduced and finally develops into spice and wine notes. The finish is shortened, but leaves a very nice mouthfeel with a buttery finish.Hibiki is more than just a mere brand of whisky: it’s a work of art, a harmonious fusion, and a brilliant example of everything the Japanese whisky industry is known best for. Hibiki 17 Year earned the Gold Medal at the International Spirits Competition in 2012 and 2013. In addition, it was named the "Best Japanese Blended Whisky" at the World Whiskies Awards. Oak, resin, melted dark chocolate, mixed berry pie and gentle aromas of smoke are apparent on the nose, followed by sweeter notes of citrus and vanilla custard balanced by lemon zest and rich oak on the palate. The finish is long, with cinnamon, sherried fruits and more oak lingering for some time. It’s an incredible piece of craftsmanship that every whisky fan should experience in their lifetime, and with the expression destined to fade from existence in the near future, it’s worth doing while you can. Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us.

Incredibly well constructed with a stunning range of flavors means even the most budget-friendly bottles of Hibiki should be savored rather than gulped down. We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Any new functionalities, tools and features shall be part of and governed by the Terms from the moment they are launched and/or available. Further, we reserve the right to modify, change, discontinue the Service, add or remove features, update the Service, change its appearance, temporarily and permanently, at any time, in whole or any part thereof. Meanwhile, if you spot miniature bottles for even around 1,000 yen in your local liquor shop, airport, or supermarket, buy them while you can. After this articles posts, even those may be hard to find. First reaction, from nosing of bottle immediately after cap removal is distinctly and umistakably, of plum wine. A wonderful thing to experience for the first time! I left the bottle alone for 15 minutes before pouring a dram for nosing and tasting and followed up the tasting the next day, these are combined notes with my final score. I wish I'd brought 3 or 4 bottles (I could sell 1 bottle and pay for the other 3 and still make a profit).

Nose: Plum, golden brown sugar, light vanilla, aged antique wood, wood polish, orange citrous peel, little Japanese umeboshi (sour plum), caramel. On the subtle side there's a little sandalwood, custard. Drinking Hibiki whisky is no casual occasion. If ever there was a brand that truly deserves the respect of making whisky drinking into a prestigious occasion, it’s Hibiki. This premium brand is one of the most impressive in the world and is one you’ll want to appreciate slowly. In February 1899, Shinjiro Torii opened a store in Osaka, Japan, that traded in imported wines. Within a decade, Torii began producing his own sweet grape wine called Akadama Port Wine, which became wildly popular throughout the country. In 1923, Torri — fascinated by whisky his entire life — decided to expand his business and began constructing the Yamazaki Distillery, Japan's first-ever whisky distillery. Now I've tried a few other Japanese whiskies before, specifically the Yamazaki 12 yr (over rated in my opinion) and the Hakushu 12 yr old (absolutely brilliant). Is it the greatest whisky ever? No. Is it worth the huge sums people shell out for a bottle now? Of course not. But it was a beautifully balanced whisky and still the best Japanese whisky I've ever tasted (admittedly I think I've only had maybe 6 or 7).

Hibiki is careful, measured, and specific. Every element of this incredible whisky was designed precisely so, with no margin for error or any kind of supplementation. And that’s something you’ll spot every step of the way. I asked the economist and writer, Noah Smith, for a second opinion. He also concurred. "Nice find! Normally, economists would think this is just a mistake - maybe one division of the company didn't talk to another, and they made an error in their pricing that will eventually be corrected when enough people start taking advantage of it. On the other hand, maybe people who drink Hibiki value the large bottle itself, for the authenticity, the conspicuous display of wealth, or the way it looks on the shelf. But as a Texan, I recommend that you ignore such effete, snobbish concerns and just grab the cheap whiskey.” No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the composition of the liquid. It retains the original formula that has earned dozens of prestigious awards from leading competitions and houses the same outstanding tasting notes inside. After all, when a whisky is this good, there’s simply no sense in making a change. We deliver to a number of international destinations including the USA. Please use the 'Change Location' link above for an estimate in your local currency or find out more about international delivery Hibiki 17 Year Old Japanese Whisky is crafted from a blend of over 30 unique whiskies produced at both Yamazaki Distillery and Hakushu Distillery, including some that have matured in previously-used Umeshu casks (Umeshu casks are specially coopered casks that are used in the maturation of plum liqueur). "This is all done by hand — the traditional way," says Osamu Abe, the manager of Yamazaki Distillery, referring to the cooperage taking place at the distillery. "This is called yagura — craftsmanship. You must watch and listen to how they're made. In Japan, we say "˜use all 5 senses.' Of course we learn from others, but our own senses are key." We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. Balance: Not as "harmonious" (as the translation of Hibiki implies), I find that although certain elements in this whisky work well, they do not combine in such a way as to elevate the overall experience, such as a very good whisky can do.
