About this deal

Among the stable high-mileage training shoes that I have tested, GT-2000 9 feels the least corrective in relation to my natural landing and take-off. This indicates that Asics GT-2000 9 generally is suited for runners with a mild to modate overpronation. In case of severe overpronation I would recommend to choose its big brother – Asics GEL-Kayano, which in spite of everything provides a little more resistance against overpronation. are looking for neutral running shoes (in this case, consider models from the ASICS Cumulus or Nimbus family)

I like ASICS’ somewhat “old school” approach to stability. It is secure and dependable like your favorite pair of running shorts. The outsoles of the 7 and the 10 align pretty well, but the 10 is slightly more pointed and longer, about ¼-size longer than the shoe has been traditionally.

ASICS GT 2000 10 First Impressions

And as someone who is always wary of ankle and Achilles tightness or strains, the heel felt comfortable and reliable for plenty of miles. No heel slipping The tight upper provides stability on my runs because my foot is kept in place and doesn´t move around in the shoe. It’s always a gamble any time a manufacturer overhauls a popular shoe and I admit that I was immediately suspicious when I saw what appeared to be the Kayano 18 midsole on the GT 2000 GTX.

You can see the Pronation support 'Dynamic DuoMax' in the picture as the purple piece on the inside of the shoe. It prevents the shoe from falling inward during the landing and take-off. The improved mesh is more flexible and breathable. You will find a seamless constructed upper which means there are no points of irritation. The biggest change comes in torsion resistance. When I twist the shoe there is more resistance from the older midfoot. This will especially come into play the heavier the runner and the higher pressure applied to the shoe with overpronation. Since the knit material also had a touch more give than the old style, it finally stretched to comfortably cradle the ball of my foot by about 50 miles in. (See Upper section for more.) I struggled with the feel of the midsole. They were stiff and provided minimal energy return. I thought it was a breaking-in period, but after 75 miles they still feel rigid and unforgiving. But how does a running shoe that has been around for three decades stay up-to-date and remain a popular choice among many runners? The GT 2000 GTX is billed as a hybrid all purpose shoe but upon first glance it looks as though it’s designed exclusively for the trail. Mizuno Wave Inspire 19 - The redesign for the guidance-based stability trainer is an early 2023 favorite The ASICS GT 2000 9 weighs 9.9oz (281g), which is pretty moderate for most stability running shoes (10.5oz/297g average weight). Even with the weight that accounts for many of the stability features within a shoe of this type, I was impressed with how much bounce and response the shoe showed.

I really only have two issues with the shoe; the toe box is narrower than I like and the shoe retains quite a bit of heat. Asics really needs to open up the toe box and allow for a bit more toe spread as I believe this allows a runners foot to be more naturally stable. I have had hot feet in most Asics shoes that I’ve tested but this one is like an oven! It could be due to the Gore Tex upper though I’ll have to wait until I get the road version of the GT 2000 to make a final verdict in this regard. These materials have been reinforced in targeted areas for added support as the foot rolls through the gait cycle, delivering a more efficient toe-off and secure fit. The 10 conforms more to my foot than I believe the old mesh design would, and this is necessary (for my foot) given the snugged-up forefoot fit in the new model. The pressure relaxed just enough to keep me wearing the shoe post run by about 50 miles in. Various distances: ASICS GT-2000™ running shoes are highly versatile - they’re suited both to beginners and shorter races, but are also very well suited to running medium and long distances. Asics takes the biggest risk in the GT 2000 series with the new midsole design. It is reminiscent of last year’s Kayano 18 midsole which I was not particularly impressed with in terms of stability. It works in partnership with the Guidance Trusstic System located on the bottom of the shoe in the midfoot area. This is a lightweight hard plastic plate that provides torsional rigidity.
